Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Technician and Medical Office Assistant to join our healthcare team. This dynamic role combines hands-on laboratory work with administrative responsibilities, ensuring seamless patient care and efficient clinic operations. You will perform essential laboratory tests, assist with patient interactions, manage medical records, and support the overall workflow of the medical facility.
Your proactive approach and technical expertise will contribute to delivering accurate diagnostics and exceptional patient service in a fast-paced workplace.
Responsibilities
Administrative / Front Office
- Greet and check in patients, verify demographic and insurance/health card information.
- Answer phones, respond to patient inquiries, and relay messages to physicians
- Maintain and update electronic medical records (EMR) accurately and confidentially
- Prepare, organize, and file patient charts and consultation notes
Clinical / Phlebotomy
- Perform venipuncture.
- Label, process, and prepare specimens for laboratory testing according to protocol
- Maintain proper infection control, sterilization, and biohazard disposal procedures
- Take and record vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight) as needed
- Assist physicians with minor procedures or examinations
- Ensure all specimens are properly logged and dispatched to external labs in a timely manner
- Maintain phlebotomy supplies inventory and equipment
- Schedule and confirm appointments,
manage the clinic calendar
- Answer phones, respond to patient inquiries, and relay messages to physicians
- Maintain and update electronic medical records (EMR) accurately and confidentially
- Prepare, organize, and file patient charts and consultation notes
- Process referrals, requisitions, and communication with external providers or labs
- Handle billing tasks (e.g., OHIP billing, invoicing) as required
Requirements
- Proven experience working in a hospital or clinical environment is highly preferred
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, laboratory procedures, and safety standards
- Hands-on experience with phlebotomy techniques and specimen handling
- Previous laboratory experience with proficiency in data analysis and record keeping
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail to ensure accuracy in testing and documentation
- Ability to communicate clearly with patients, colleagues, and healthcare providers in a professional manner
- Certification or training in phlebotomy or medical assisting is advantageous but not mandatory
