Position Overview
SCG Millwork is seeking an experienced and hands-on Millwork Project Manager to manage projects from A to Z, from initial client consultation and project scoping through design, estimating, procurement, production, quality control, delivery and final installation.
This is a highly involved role for someone who understands the complete millwork process and can effectively bridge the gap between the client, design team, estimating, procurement, production, installers, contractors and management.
The successful candidate will take ownership of assigned projects, ensuring they are properly scoped, accurately estimated, efficiently produced, installed to a high standard, and completed on time and within budget.
The Millwork Project Manager will also work closely with and assist the General Manager in the overall management and coordination of SCG Millwork operations, including production planning, procurement, problem-solving, client relationships and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
1. Client Management & Project Development
- Meet with clients, contractors, designers, builders and other stakeholders to understand project requirements, expectations and objectives.
- Act as the primary point of contact for assigned projects from initial inquiry through completion.
- Conduct site visits, consultations and project walkthroughs as required.
- Develop a clear understanding of project scope, specifications, finishes, materials, quantities, timelines and installation requirements.
- Identify project risks, potential challenges and opportunities at the outset.
- Maintain strong client relationships and provide professional communication throughout the project lifecycle.
- Address questions, concerns, deficiencies and changes in a timely and solutions-oriented manner.
1. Site Measurements & Project Scoping
- Conduct accurate field measurements and site assessments for custom millwork projects.
- Review existing conditions and identify potential installation or fabrication issues before production begins.
- Review architectural drawings, elevations, specifications and other project documentation.
- Develop detailed project scopes and ensure all required components are identified before estimating and production.
- Coordinate with site personnel, contractors and other trades where required.
1. Estimating & Quoting
- Prepare and/or assist with detailed estimates and quotations for millwork projects.
- Review drawings, specifications, material requirements, labour, fabrication, delivery and installation requirements when developing project pricing.
- Obtain and review supplier and subcontractor pricing.
- Identify project exclusions, assumptions and potential additional costs.
- Review project profitability and help ensure projects are executed in accordance with approved budgets.
- Prepare and manage change orders resulting from scope changes, site conditions or client requests.
1. Design & Technical Coordination
- Review and interpret architectural, construction and millwork drawings.
- Assist with the development of millwork designs, shop drawings and technical details as required.
- Use Mozaik or equivalent CAD/CAM software to develop, review or modify designs and production drawings.
- Work with clients and designers to finalize layouts, materials, finishes, hardware and other project details.
- Ensure designs are practical and suitable for manufacturing and installation.
- Identify design conflicts or constructability issues and provide practical solutions.
- Coordinate design revisions and ensure the latest approved information is communicated to production.
1. Procurement & Materials
- Identify and procure required materials, hardware, finishes, components and specialty items.
- Coordinate with suppliers to obtain pricing, confirm availability and manage lead times.
- Monitor material orders and ensure products arrive in accordance with production and installation schedules.
- Follow up on delayed, damaged or incorrect materials and resolve issues promptly.
- Work with the General Manager and relevant team members to manage purchasing and control project costs.
- Maintain awareness of supplier pricing, material availability and alternative products where appropriate.
1. Production Management
- Coordinate projects with the production team from approved design through fabrication.
- Provide production with clear drawings, specifications, material requirements and project timelines.
- Monitor production progress and ensure projects remain on schedule.
- Conduct regular production reviews and identify potential delays or issues before they affect the project.
- Troubleshoot fabrication challenges and coordinate solutions with production staff.
- Ensure products are fabricated according to approved drawings, specifications and quality standards.
- Coordinate priorities with production to meet project deadlines and installation schedules.
1. Quality Control
- Take ownership of quality throughout the project lifecycle.
- Conduct or coordinate quality checks at key stages of fabrication and prior to delivery.
- Verify dimensions, finishes, hardware, materials, colours and overall workmanship against approved drawings and specifications.
- Identify deficiencies and coordinate corrective action before products leave the facility whenever possible.
- Conduct site inspections during and after installation as required.
- Ensure deficiencies are documented, communicated and resolved promptly.
1. Delivery & Installation
- Coordinate delivery schedules and installation requirements.
- Ensure all required components, hardware, drawings and materials are ready before delivery and installation.
- Coordinate with installers, site supervisors, general contractors and other trades.
- Oversee and monitor installation to ensure work is completed safely, accurately and in accordance with project requirements.
- Attend installation sites as required to resolve issues and ensure quality.
- Troubleshoot site conditions and installation challenges and determine practical solutions.
- Conduct final walkthroughs and coordinate completion of deficiencies and punch-list items.
1. Project Administration & Documentation
- Maintain accurate project files from inception through completion.
- Track drawings, revisions, approvals, purchase orders, material orders, change orders, schedules and project correspondence.
- Maintain project schedules and communicate important milestones to all stakeholders.
- Track project progress, costs and outstanding items.
- Ensure client approvals are obtained before proceeding with significant design, material or scope changes.
- Prepare progress updates and reports for management as required.
- Ensure project documentation is organized and accessible throughout the project.
1. General Manager Support & Operations
- Work closely with and provide support to the General Manager in the day-to-day operation of SCG Millwork.
- Assist with production planning, scheduling, procurement, estimating and resource coordination.
- Support the General Manager in resolving operational, production, client and project-related issues.
- Assist in improving processes, systems and workflows across estimating, design, production and installation.
- Help identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, control costs and increase profitability.
- Provide management with updates regarding project status, production capacity, material requirements, risks and potential issues.
- Step in and assist across different areas of the business when required to ensure projects and operations continue to move forward.
1. Team Leadership & Coordination
- Coordinate effectively with designers, CNC operators, cabinetmakers, production staff, installers, suppliers, contractors and management.
- Provide clear direction and priorities to ensure projects progress efficiently.
- Foster accountability and teamwork across departments.
- Help resolve conflicts and project issues in a professional and solutions-oriented manner.
- Ensure everyone involved in a project understands their responsibilities, deadlines and deliverables.

Qualifications & Experience
- 3+ years of experience in millwork project management, custom cabinetry, architectural millwork, woodworking, construction or a related industry.
- Strong understanding of the complete millwork process from design and estimating through fabrication and installation.
- Hands-on knowledge of cabinetry, custom millwork, materials, hardware, finishes and manufacturing processes.
- Strong ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, millwork drawings, shop drawings and specifications.
- Experience with Mozaik or equivalent CAD/CAM, drafting or millwork design software.
- Strong understanding of millwork fabrication and installation procedures.
- Experience conducting field measurements and site assessments.
- Experience with estimating, procurement and project coordination.
- Strong understanding of project costs, budgets, scheduling and change orders.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Robust attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Excellent communication and client relationship skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
- Strong computer skills and experience with project management, estimating or ERP systems is an asset.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as required.
- Construction management, architectural technology, interior design, woodworking or related education is an asset.
- Hands-on experience in millwork fabrication, cabinetry or installation is strongly preferred.
