The Lions Den Pub is looking for Bar Security to join our weekend team.

WHAT YOU’LL ACTUALLY BE DOING

Your job is to help keep the Lions Den safe, enjoyable and under control for our customers and staff.

That means

- Checking identification and controlling entry into the bar
- Watching for fake, altered, borrowed or otherwise questionable IDs
- Monitoring entrances, exits and restricted areas
- Keeping track of occupancy and assisting with crowd control
- Maintaining a visible security presence throughout the premises
- Watching for intoxication, escalating behaviour and potential problems
- Intervening early before an argument turns into an audition for UFC
- De-escalating conflicts calmly and professionally
- Refusing entry or assisting with the removal of patrons when necessary
- Ensuring banned patrons remain, unsurprisingly, banned
- Supporting bartenders, servers and management when dealing with difficult patrons
- Responding appropriately to fights, medical emergencies, fire alarms and other incidents
- Contacting police, EMS or other emergency services when required
- Completing accurate incident reports when something noteworthy happens
- Helping ensure the premises operate in accordance with AGLC requirements, Alberta law and Lions Den policies
- Generally making sure everyone gets to have a good night without becoming tomorrow morning’s story

Our goal is to prevent problems rather than win fights. If nothing happens all night because you noticed problems early, communicated well and handled people properly, you did your job.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Experience in security, bars, nightclubs, law enforcement, corrections, military, hospitality or similar environments is an asset, but not required.





We care more about whether you:

- Stay calm when other people don’t
- Can communicate confidently without immediately escalating a situation
- Have good judgment
- Are dependable and actually show up when scheduled
- Can work as part of a team
- Are comfortable dealing with intoxicated and occasionally unreasonable people
- Can remain professional when someone decides you are personally responsible for ruining their entire life because you wouldn’t let them back into the bar
- Understand that security is about safety first, ego last

You do not need to be 6’5”, 280 lbs or built like a commercial refrigerator. Good security relies heavily on awareness, communication, positioning, teamwork and knowing when to intervene.

CERTIFICATION & LICENSING

Successful applicants will be required to meet all applicable Alberta security and AGLC requirements.

AGLC ProServe and ProTect certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Late nights are part of the deal. Unfortunately, nightclub security positions occurring Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM remain extremely rare.

WHAT WE EXPECT

Lions Den Security will be expected to operate at or above AGLC safety and security standards.

We expect our team to:

Observe first. Communicate early. De-escalate whenever possible. Use only the level of intervention reasonably necessary. Protect staff and patrons. Document serious incidents. Work as a team.

We’re not looking for people who want to fight.

We’re looking for people who are good enough at security that most fights never happen.
