This is an in person (Port Williams), part time contract position from 1:30PM- 6PM, Monday - Friday for the 2026-2027 school year.

The Nova Scotia Before and After Program (NS BAP) facilitates a seamless day of childcare for children ages 4 - 12 who are attending school. It is a recreation-based program built on the principles of outdoor movement and play, intended to promote healthier and more active children. Childcare before and after the school day also helps build vibrant communities by enabling families to more fully participate in the workforce.

The NS BAP Inclusion Staff will work at Port Williams Elementary School and report to the BAP Coordinator and Site Team Lead. This position provides dedicated one-on-one support to a child participating in the program, helping them access and meaningfully participate in the program alongside their peers.

The Inclusion

Staff will work collaboratively with the child, family, program staff, and school community to support the child's individual needs while promoting inclusion, independence, belonging, and positive relationships.

Responsibilities:

- Provide dedicated one-on-one support to a child participating in the after school program.
- Support the child's participation in daily activities, recreation, outdoor play, routines, and transitions.
- Adapt activities and the environment as needed to support the child's individual abilities, interests, communication style, and sensory needs.
- Provide support with emotional regulation, social interactions, communication, and conflict resolution.
- Use positive, respectful, and child-centred strategies to support behaviour and participation.
- Encourage independence and provide support appropriate to the child's developmental needs.
- Monitor the child's safety and well-being while maintaining awareness of the needs and safety of the larger group.




- Work collaboratively with the Team Lead and other program staff to create an inclusive and welcoming environment.
- Communicate with the BAP Coordinator and Team Lead regarding relevant observations, concerns, successes, and support needs.
- Follow individualized strategies, plans, and recommendations provided by the child's family and/or appropriate professionals, as applicable.
- Maintain confidentiality of all child and family information.
- Assist with general program duties, snack preparation, and site maintenance as required.
- Support an environment where all children feel welcomed, valued, and included.

Qualifications:

- Experience working directly with children with disabilities and/or diverse support needs is required.
- Familiarity and experience working with children on the autism spectrum is required.
- Experience supporting children with communication, sensory, behavioural, social-emotional, or developmental needs is strongly preferred.
- Understanding of neurodiversity and inclusive, child-centred practices.
- Patient, compassionate, and flexible approach to supporting children.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Ability to respond calmly and appropriately to challenging or unexpected situations.
- Experience working in a childcare, school, recreation, or support setting is an asset.
- ECE training, Educational Assistant training or equivalent education/experience is an asset.
- First Aid & CPR certification required.
- Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registry Check required.
