About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Payroll Administrator to join our team on a maternity leave term position, with the possibility of extension or long-term employment.
This role is responsible for the full-cycle processing of semi-monthly payroll for both administrative staff and field crews. The position plays a key role in ensuring payroll accuracy, compliance, and proper cost allocation across multiple projects in a structured and process-driven environment.
Payroll data is captured through our field management system, with established workflows and templates in place. This role is best suited to someone who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable following structured processes while maintaining accuracy across a high volume of transactions.
In addition to payroll, the successful candidate will support various accounting and payment functions, including credit card and account reconciliations. Depending on business needs and the successful candidate's interests and abilities, there may be opportunities to gain broader exposure to accounting functions over time.
Key Responsibilities
- Process full-cycle, semi-monthly payroll for approximately 50–100 employees
- Set up and maintain employee profiles in the payroll system, ensuring accuracy of all employee data
- Accurately calculate and process semi-monthly drilling bonuses and other variable compensation
- Calculate and process travel pay, allowances, and employee reimbursements
- Review payroll data exported from the field management system for completeness and accuracy
- Review payroll reports for discrepancies and investigate variances prior to processing
- Allocate payroll costs to projects based on system-generated reports, ensuring accurate coding and reporting
- Maintain accurate payroll records, including employee earnings, deductions, and other payroll-related information
- Ensure compliance with federal and provincial payroll legislation
- Administer the Company’s in-house benefits program
- Prepare and submit statutory remittances, including CPP, EI, and income tax
- Issue Records of Employment (ROEs) and year-end tax documents (T4s)
- Respond to employee payroll and benefits inquiries in a timely and professional manner
- Support payroll-related reconciliations and reporting
- Perform corporate credit card and other account reconciliations and assist with accounting tasks as required
- Release payments through the Company’s bill payment platform in accordance with internal controls
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll and administrative processes
Qualifications
- 2+ years of full-cycle payroll experience
- Experience with QuickBooks Online Payroll or similar systems
- Strong understanding of Canadian payroll legislation and compliance requirements
- Experience with project-based payroll or cost allocation is considered an asset
- Experience administering employee benefits programs is an asset
- Familiarity with electronic payment platforms (e.g. CAFT) or similar systems is an asset
- Proficiency in an Apple (Mac/iMac) environment, or a willingness and ability to become proficient in macOS
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and working proficiency with other Microsoft Office applications
- PCP designation, or working toward designation, is an asset
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Comfortable working with structured, detail-intensive processes
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation (office location is not accessible by public transit)
Working Conditions
- Full-time, in-office position based in Winnipeg, Manitoba
- Our office operates exclusively in an Apple (Mac/iMac) environment

Pay: $63,000.00-$67,000.00 per year
