Production Planner

Summary

Fairbanks Morse Defense Handling is looking for a Production Planner to join that team. Reporting to the Supply Chain & Quality Manager, the Production Planner creates and manages manufacturing schedules to ensure products are produced on time, and materials are available when needed. This role balances customer demand, production capacity, and inventory levels to optimize manufacturing operations.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

- Develop and manage weekly production schedules while balancing capacity and labor requirements.
- Leverage ERP technology,



data analytics, and continuous improvement principles to optimize planning performance.
- Partner with Operations, Quality, Engineering, Programs, and Supply Chain teams to maximize efficiency and production flow.
- Coordinate resources and planning activities to support on-time production and customer deliveries.
- Proactively identify and communicate risks that could impact production schedules, material availability, or customer commitments.
- Monitor the progress of units throughout the manufacturing process
- Work directly with Production Supervisors and department leads to ensure schedules are achievable
- Identify production bottlenecks, material shortages, labor constraints and other risks before they impact delivery
- Review labor and production capacity when establishing schedules
- Adjust schedules based on changing priorities, material availability and production conditions
- Provide management with accurate production status and projected completion dates
- Participate in production meetings and communicate priorities to the appropriate departments
- Help improve scheduling and workflow processes
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Educational Requirements

- Post-secondary education in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of production planning, scheduling or production management experience in a manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of inventory management, capacity planning, and material requirements planning (MRP).
- Experience using ERP systems for planning and scheduling activities.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis.
- Robust analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across departments.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience implementing or improving planning systems,



tools, and processes.
- Preferred - Experience with AI-powered planning tools, predictive analytics, or advanced planning software.
- Experience with custom or low-volume manufacturing is preferred
- Ability to read and understand production drawings, work orders and bills of material
- Comfortable spending significant time on the production floor, not just working from an office
- Must be Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada for greater than 5 years.
- Able to obtain NATO security clearance (Secret Level) through Canadian Contract Security Program.
