In addition, we are the lead agency of Family Centre Fox Hollow, where we work with community partners to deliver coordinated programs and services for children, families, and youth.

Summary

Permanent Position

We are seeking an energetic individual to join our team as the Cook at our St.Thomas Aquinas Child Care Centre location.

Hours: 8hrs per day/40hrs/week (Child Care hours of operation are 7:15 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.)

Schedule: The 8-hour-per-day schedule is Monday to Friday , and determined based on the operational needs of the centre. Schedule assignments may be adjusted as required to meet operational demands and may change at any time, with or without notice.

Responsibilities The Cook supports kitchen operations in the Child Care Centre and applicable School-age programs.

Kitchen Responsibilities:

According to Canada’s Food Guide, the Child Care and Early Years Act and the Ministry of Health guidelines:

- Prepares and serves nutritional, well-balanced meals and snacks for the children in a timely manner.
- Considers group and individual needs of all children, e.g. allergies, restrictions, substitutes.




- Orders sufficient food and supplies in a cost-conscious manner.
- Maintains the kitchen for effective use and in good condition.
- Ensures proper storage of food and supplies.

Health and Safety Responsibilities: According to the Ministry of Health guidelines and the Health and Safety Policy

- Handles and prepares food in a sanitary manner.
- Follows all sanitary and cleaning procedures.
- Shows awareness of health and safety hazards in the kitchen.
- Routinely monitors for conditions which may affect the health and safety of children and adults in the facility.

Responsibilities to the Organization:

- Communicates appropriately with and maintains a positive, professional attitude when interacting with children, staff, parents and visitors.
- Shows an active interest in growing and learning as a cook through ongoing career development.
- Is flexible as required for smooth operations.

Education, skills, special training, certificates and experience required to perform successfully the duties of the position successfully:

- Minimum education- High School graduate
- Must possess a Food Handlers’ Certificate.
- Experience cooking in a childcare centre or other institution.
- Demonstrated ability in planning well-balanced meals and snacks in accordance with the Canada Food Guide and the Ministry of Health regulations
- First Aid and Infant/Child CPR, Criminal Reference Check (for new employees dated within 6 months before hire), WHMIS.
