Your Opportunity

As a Pharmacy Technician, come join the Home Parenteral Therapy (HPT) program! As a key member of the Pharmacy Department and HPT program the Pharmacy technician is responsible and accountable for the technical aspects of drug distribution within the overall medication use process in accordance with professional standards and organization policies.

Duties may include but not limited to: drug preparation and final product checking of non-hazardous sterile products and individual patient prescriptions, packing products, billing and reconciliation, managing patient medication profiles, all aspects of drug procurement, inventory management and insurance claims. You will build relationships with all members of the healthcare team including the HPT Pharmacist and Nursing staff to clarify orders and requests, triaging drug information questions, distribution issues and ensure timely delivery of HPT medications to patient’s residence and AHS sites within the Edmonton area. You will support the safety of the medication distribution process and other quality improvement initiatives, and mentor recent staff through training and orientation.

Maintains department work areas by ensuring tidiness and order, participates in special projects and programs as assigned, maintains department records, statistics, and prepares reports as required. Demonstrates excellent organizational, decision making, time management and communication skills. Proven ability to work independently, effectively, and cooperatively within a team.

Also, must be able to manually operate the ambulatory pumps and lift/carry patient medications and equipment up to approximately 20 pounds. Must have physical ability to perform all duties (bending, crouching, lifting) & withstand long periods of sitting,



standing, walking as this role requires daily IV room work, medication prep, dispensing, & packaging for delivery.

Description

As a Pharmacy Technician I, you will be responsible for the preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical products. You will receive and triage medication orders, compound and repackage medication and prepare sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products.

Required Qualifications

Completion of a CCAPP-accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program. Current, provisional, or transferable registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) as a Pharmacy Technician.

Additional Required Qualifications

Recent Pharmacy Technician experience with a minimum of 2 years in a large acute care hospital setting. Recent (within the past 2 years) sterile compounding experience. Active registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) as a Pharmacy Technician is required.

Preferred Qualifications

HPT experience. Connect Care experience. Kroll experience with patient billing. Experience with inventory procurement and management.
