The Policy Analyst, Government Relations will be responsible for researching legislative and government policy issues related to TRREB’s government relations program, preparing detailed policy briefs and position papers and supporting TRREB’s overall government relations initiatives.

This role requires an individual with exceptional research and writing skills and an ability to comprehend and communicate a wide range of policy issues.

Principal Duties:

- Research a wide variety of government policy and legislative issues with subject matters related, but not limited, to housing, economic development, taxation, urban planning, consumer protection, environmental protection and energy efficiency, demographics, and more;
- Monitor city council and committee meetings, as well as provincial and federal legislative agendas to identify and track public policy initiatives relevant to Ontario REALTORS®;
- Comply with all Lobbyist Codes of Conduct and Lobbyist Registry legal requirements, including maintenance of TRREB lobbyist registry filings at the local, provincial and federal levels;
- Develop and update fact sheets on government programs;
- Prepare and present policy briefs, research papers, and position papers intended for a wide variety of audiences including government decision makers, public, media, REALTORS® and other stakeholders;
- Prepare research proposals to be presented to TRREB’S Government Relations Committee,



regional Government Relations Working Groups and Board of Directors;
- Collaborate with other TRREB staff, departments and client boards/associations to communicate results of research with intended audiences;
- Collaborate with other TRREB staff, departments and client boards to support research and development of policy papers incorporating real estate market and MLS® data;
- Participate in TRREB Government Relations Committee and regional GR Working Group meetings and brief the Committee and Working Groups on research and policy position papers; and
- Collaborate with third parties and other related external stakeholders on potential research or partnership initiatives.

Requirements:

Education:

- University degree in economics, urban planning, business, political science, public administration, communications or other field related to TRREB interests.

Experience:

- At least two years of experience working in a research or writing role with a focus on government and legislative policy related to housing, economics, urban planning or other fields related to TRREB interests.
- Experience working in a skilled or not for profit association an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate in a variety of styles with varying intended audiences.
- Knowledge and past experience with Statistics Canada information, including Census data, and other information sources.
