The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ promotes, cares, and advocates for a vibrant and inclusive downtown where business thrives and people are drawn to work, live, invest and explore. Our downtown is on Treaty No. 1 territory and the National Homeland of the Red River Métis.
As our Policy & Economic Development Coordinator, reporting to the Manager of Policy & Economic Development, you will help drive initiatives that support a strong, vibrant, and resilient Downtown Winnipeg. From analyzing business trends and administering programs to engaging with stakeholders and contributing to policy and advocacy work, your efforts will help inform decision-making and create meaningful impact in our downtown community.
We are seeking an organized and enthusiastic professional who enjoys working with both people and data. You bring strong research, communication, and project management skills, along with a collaborative approach and a genuine interest in helping downtown businesses and communities succeed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Maintain economic development databases and track and report on development activity, including business openings and closings.
· Support existing and potential new BIZ members by providing market research, business development information, and information on available government supports.
· Administer economic development programs and initiatives, including the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ Gift Card program, economic development tours, and member grant programs such as Host It Downtown.
· Support business attraction efforts and maintain the business support section of the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ website.
· Research and monitor initiatives from all levels of government and provide insight on the economic and political landscape, identifying opportunities for management.
· Develop backgrounders, letters, presentations, reports, and other supporting materials related to policy, advocacy, and economic development initiatives.
· Support Downtown Winnipeg BIZ advocacy events and initiatives and contribute to effective relationships with public and private sector stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Post-secondary education in Economics, Business or Public Administration, or a related discipline. Relevant work experience is considered an asset.
· General understanding of economic development principles and practices, with the ability to accurately evaluate, communicate, and report on economic development projects and programs.
· Strong research, analysis, problem-solving, and evaluation skills, with the ability to quickly learn concepts, take ownership, and manage work with minimal supervision.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to create clear presentations and reports.
· Excellent organizational and planning skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and projects.
· Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with public and private sector stakeholders.
· Knowledge of project management and experience with research and database management.
· Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint.
