We’re looking for someone who is organized and pays attention to detail, but probably more importantly, someone who follows through. If you’ve sent something out or are waiting on information, we need you to keep track of it and follow up rather than waiting for someone else to remind you.
You also need to be adaptable and able to change direction when priorities shift. Construction doesn’t always go according to plan, and what was the priority at the beginning of the day may not be the priority a few hours later. We need someone who can pivot when needed, reprioritize their workload and keep things moving without losing track of what still needs to be done.
You should also be comfortable:
- Managing several priorities at the same time
- Reprioritizing when something more urgent comes up
- Picking up the phone and following up with people
- Communicating with subcontractors, suppliers, customers and coworkers
- Learning new programs and processes
- Working independently while still knowing when something needs to go back to the Project Manager
- Asking questions when you aren't sure rather than making assumptions
Previous experience in construction or general contracting would be an asset, but we are willing to train the right person. Experience with project coordination, construction administration, invoicing, purchase orders or similar work would also be an asset. We’re mainly looking for someone who is dependable, organized, adaptable, willing to learn and able to stay on top of things even when priorities change.
