Project Manager – Electrical Construction

Location : Nanaimo, BC

Employment Type: Full time, Permanent

Position Overview

Client is seeking an experienced Project Manager to support its growing operations in Nanaimo and across Vancouver Island. This position will be responsible for managing electrical construction projects from initial planning and pre-construction through execution, commissioning, and closeout.

The successful candidate will bring strong electrical construction knowledge, project management experience, and the ability to manage budgets, schedules, subcontractors, suppliers, field teams, and client relationships. Experience with electrical estimating and pre-construction would be a strong asset, particularly someone who can review drawings, understand project costs, assist with pricing, and manage projects with a strong commercial mindset.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who understands the realities of electrical construction and is comfortable working closely with field operations, clients, consultants, general contractors, and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage electrical construction projects from award through completion, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to Client's quality standards.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, cost forecasts, procurement plans, and project documentation.
- Review electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, scopes of work, and tender documentation.
- Coordinate project start-up activities, manpower requirements, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and site logistics.
- Work closely with Site Superintendents, Forepersons, Project Coordinators, Estimators, and other internal teams throughout project execution.
- Monitor project costs, labour productivity, committed costs, change orders, and overall financial performance.
- Identify scope changes and prepare, price, negotiate, and track change orders.

- Participate in project forecasting and provide regular updates regarding project financials, schedule, risks, and overall status.
- Manage procurement of major electrical equipment and materials while monitoring lead times and delivery requirements.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, general contractors, consultants, engineers, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Lead project meetings and ensure outstanding issues, RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, deficiencies, and action items are addressed.
- Review project drawings and coordinate constructability issues with field teams and consultants.
- Ensure work is completed in accordance with contract documents, applicable electrical codes, safety requirements, and company standards.
- Support commissioning, deficiency management, project turnover, as-built documentation, and closeout.
- Assist with estimating, budgeting, tender reviews, take-offs, and pre-construction activities where required.
- Identify project risks early and proactively develop solutions to protect schedule, budget, and client relationships.
- Support business development by maintaining strong client relationships and identifying future project opportunities.

Qualifications & Experience

- 5+ years of experience in electrical construction, with demonstrated project management experience.
- Strong understanding of commercial, institutional, industrial, multi-residential, or large-scale electrical construction projects.
- Electrical trade background, Red Seal Electrician designation, Electrical Engineering/Technology education, or equivalent industry experience is preferred.

- Experience managing projects from pre-construction through final closeout.
- Strong understanding of electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, construction schedules, and project documentation.
- Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, forecasting, labour, procurement, change orders, and cost controls.
- Experience working directly with general contractors, consultants, engineers, clients, and field teams.
- Previous electrical estimating experience is strongly preferred, including take-offs, tender review, pricing, change order estimating, or pre-construction budgeting.
- Familiarity with electrical estimating and construction software such as Accubid, LiveCount, Bluebeam, Procore, or similar platforms would be an asset.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and project management applications.
- Knowledge of applicable BC electrical codes, construction standards, and safety requirements.
- Valid driver's licence and ability to travel to project sites throughout Nanaimo and Vancouver Island as required.

What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is a hands-on electrical construction Project Manager who can take ownership of a project rather than simply administer it. They understand the field, can read drawings, manage costs, communicate effectively with trades and clients, and recognize potential project issues before they become problems.

Someone with a combination of project management and electrical estimating experience would be particularly valuable, allowing them to understand how the project was originally priced, identify scope gaps and changes, manage costs effectively, and support future tendering and pre-construction activities.

The successful candidate will be organized, commercially aware, accountable, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced electrical contracting environment while managing multiple priorities and stakeholders.
