Position Summary The Quality Control Technician is responsible for overseeing and continuously improving all food safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance programs across production operations. This role ensures that all products meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and consistency, in alignment with company policies, HACCP principles, and applicable regulatory requirements, including CFIA and third-party audit standards (e.g., SQF, ARCHE).

The position leads the development, implementation, and maintenance of food safety systems, including HACCP plans, sanitation programs, traceability, recall procedures, and documentation practices. The Quality Control Technician works cross-functionally with production, procurement, and leadership teams to identify risks, drive corrective actions, and foster a strong culture of food safety and quality throughout the organization.

This is a part-time position of 20 hours per week, reporting directly to senior leadership.

Major Responsibilities:

Production

On a daily basis

- Paying close attention to food handling safety and quality guidelines, and following production specifications, ensure overall daily as well as individual production requirements are met.
- Accurately complete all safety food handling logs, including HACCP logs, hot and cold holding logs, cooling logs, fridge temperature logs, final cook temp logs (as appropriate), cleaning logs, and any other logs as specified by company policy.
- Carefully dress in the appropriate PPE and sanitary clothing, including aprons, gowns, beard nets, hair nets, masks, foot coverings, etc., as required by company policy or the supervisor.
- Establishing food safety standards, identifying weaknesses, and implementing SOP’s.
- Communicating behavioural standards for all new and existing staff.




- Identifying hazards and working collaboratively with other staff members to ensure compliance and adherence to the food safety program.
- consulting with appropriate personnel to resolve quality, production, and efficiency problems, and ensuring proper follow-up occurs on all problems and corrective actions.

On an ongoing and/or as needed basis:
- With a sense of urgency, report to a supervisor and/or remove from circulation any damaged equipment, including machinery, smallwares, or storage equipment.

Production Quality and Food Safety On an ongoing and/or as needed basis:

- Using learned best practices and established HACCP guidelines, clean and sanitize work areas on an ongoing basis and at pre-scheduled times, and ensure all corresponding logs are filled out correctly.
- Using established HACCP guidelines, conduct sanitary and hygiene inspections, correcting actions as needed and reporting any ongoing or urgent issues to the supervisor as soon as possible.

Policy, Safety, and Environment

On a daily basis

- Keep all company guidelines in mind, follow established personnel policies, and report any issues to the supervisor or the appropriate manager.
- Follow all established safety policies and practices.
- Immediately report any unsafe conditions, accidents, or near misses to the supervisor or a manager.

On a monthly basis:
- Using established monthly chores calendar and with great attention to detail, conduct all inspections, checks, and cleaning tasks.

Miscellaneous On an ongoing and/or as needed basis:

- With attention to detail and with the appropriate level of urgency,



complete any other tasks as assigned by the supervisor or a manager.

Requirements / Qualifications Education & Experience

- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Food Safety, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum 1–3 years of experience in food safety and quality assurance within a food manufacturing environment
- Experience working in a CFIA-regulated facility
- Experience with HACCP-based programs and preventive controls

Technical Skills & Knowledge

- Strong understanding of HACCP principles, food safety regulations, and quality systems
- Hands-on experience with:
- Traceability and recall procedures
- Sanitation and environmental monitoring programs
- Supplier approval and ingredient risk management
- Corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
- Familiarity with CFIA regulations and Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR)
- Experience maintaining food safety documentation and logs
- Comfortable working with digital systems (e.g., Google Workspace, QA logs, ERP or inventory systems)

Leadership & Soft Skills

- Robust attention to detail and a high standard for quality
- Ability to lead audits confidently and interact with inspectors, auditors, and customers
- Clear communicator who can train and coach staff on food safety practices
- Proactive problem-solver who can identify risks and implement practical solutions
- Ability to work cross-functionally with production, operations, and leadership teams.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities

Pay: $23.00-$25.00 per hour
