Position Summary

Seeking an experienced Quality Technician to support quality assurance and production activities within a high-volume manufacturing environment.

The Quality Technician will be responsible for dimensional inspection, CMM operation, laboratory testing, process and product audits, non-conformance investigations, and maintaining quality-system documentation. The successful candidate will work closely with Production, Engineering, Maintenance and Management to ensure castings and machined components meet customer specifications and internal quality standards.

What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is a hands-on Quality Technician who is comfortable moving between the production floor, CMM/inspection area and laboratory. This position requires someone who can not only identify quality problems but also understand why they are occurring, document the issue, perform testing and measurements, and work with Production and Engineering to correct the problem.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Inspection & Testing

- Perform first-piece, in-process and final inspections of castings and machined components.
- Inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, gauges and other precision measuring equipment.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T; requirements and customer specifications.
- Verify dimensional accuracy, surface condition, defects and overall product conformity.
- Perform visual inspections for casting defects including porosity, cracks, inclusions, cold shuts, shrinkage, flash and other non-conformances.
- Complete inspection reports and maintain accurate quality records.

CMM Operation

- Program, operate and maintain Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) equipment.
- Perform dimensional layouts and inspections using CMM equipment.
- Compare measured components against engineering drawings, CAD models and customer specifications.
- Develop and modify CMM inspection programs as required.
- Generate CMM reports and communicate dimensional deviations to Production and Engineering.
- Assist with fixture development and validation.
- Ensure measuring equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.

Laboratory Testing

- Perform testing of raw materials,



molten metal and finished castings as required.
- Conduct testing related to metal composition, hardness, density, tensile properties and other material characteristics.
- Monitor and record melt temperatures and other foundry process parameters.
- Collect and analyze samples and maintain test records.
- Identify abnormal test results and communicate findings to Production and Quality Management.
- Maintain equipment, supplies and testing documentation.
- Assist with investigations involving casting defects and material-related quality issues.

Quality Systems

- Maintain and update quality-system documentation, inspection procedures, work instructions and quality records.
- Support the company's ISO 9001 quality management system.
- Conduct internal process, product and quality audits.
- Maintain calibration records for inspection and testing equipment.
- Prepare and maintain Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
- Assist with Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA/CAR).
- Support root-cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
- Maintain inspection data, quality metrics and production quality records.
- Support continuous improvement and reduction of scrap and rework.

Production Support

- Work directly with Production personnel to identify and resolve quality issues.
- Provide immediate feedback when products do not meet specifications.
- Assist in determining root causes of casting and machining defects.
- Monitor production processes to ensure compliance with control plans and established procedures.
- Support implementation of process improvements designed to improve quality, reduce scrap and increase efficiency.

Education

Post Secondary Education

Qualifications

Experience Required

- Post-secondary education in Quality Assurance, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, Materials Engineering or a related technical field preferred.
- Experience in a manufacturing quality workplace.
- Experience in manufacturing quality, foundry, die casting, permanent mold casting,



machining or metal manufacturing is highly desirable.
- Previous experience operating and programming a CMM is strongly preferred.
- Experience in performing laboratory or material testing is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of precision measurement equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 and quality management systems.
- Knowledge of SPC, root-cause analysis, NCRs and corrective-action processes.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and quality/inspection software.
- Excellent analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.

- Work around heat, noise, production machinery and industrial materials
