Rail Loading Technician
Location: Joffre, Alberta
Reports To: Logistics Supervisor
Position Type: Safety-Sensitive Position
About INEOS Oligomers The Joffre LAO Plant is a petrochemical manufacturing facility located in Joffre, Alberta and is part of the INEOS Oligomers business. The site utilizes leading proprietary technology to produce Linear Alpha Olefins (LAOs), essential building blocks used in the production of polyethylene, synthetic lubricants, detergents, lubricant additives, and synthetic drilling fluids.

Position Summary The Rail Loading Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient handling, loading, unloading, sampling, and transfer of products and materials throughout the logistics and operations areas of the plant. This role plays a critical part in maintaining operational reliability, regulatory compliance, and the highest standards of safety.
The successful candidate will work closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Logistics teams to support daily plant activities while ensuring adherence to all safety, environmental, and operational procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely load and unload LAO railcars.
- Unload catalyst materials, including TEA and EPAL.
- Sample railcars and OSBL storage tanks.
- Perform C6 and C8 pipeline transfers and monthly calibrations.
- Issue and manage work permits.
- Assist with maintenance troubleshooting activities.
- Collect and record PRIDE route inspection information.
- Perform Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) activities as required.
- Participate in safety meetings and safety initiatives.
- Conduct routine safety tours and inspections.
- Complete daily shift recaps and weekend activity reports.
- Perform housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Update operating procedures as required.
- Conduct daily bump tests of gas detection monitors.
- Maintain compliance with all site safety, environmental, and operating standards.
Qualifications Required Education & Certification
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Fourth Class Power Engineering Certificate required.

Physical Requirements This position involves both field and office work within an industrial petrochemical environment.
Candidates must be able to:
- Work safely around railcars, rotating equipment, and hazardous chemicals.
- Maintain situational awareness and comply with all safety procedures.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme summer and winter temperatures while wearing required PPE.
- Climb and descend stairs and structures up to 30 feet in height.
- Wear respiratory protection equipment when required.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Perform physical tasks such as handling railcar equipment, including belly caps and related components.
- Work in environments with elevated noise levels, vibration, odors, and chemical exposure.
- Operate computers and other standard office equipment.
Work Environment The Rail Loading Technician works in a combination of plant operating areas and office settings. The role requires frequent movement throughout the facility and regular interaction with operations, maintenance, and logistics personnel. Strong visual acuity, situational awareness, and communication skills are essential to safely perform job duties and respond effectively to operational conditions.
