Your Opportunity

Alberta's Tomorrow Project (ATP) is a long-term prospective cohort study designed to support investigations into the relationships between environmental, lifestyle, and genetic factors related to cancer and chronic diseases. ATP’s priorities include collection of high-quality data and biosamples, provision of data and samples to researchers, and supporting research projects that will have impacts in cancer and chronic disease prevention and inform health system improvements.

The Research

Associate is responsible for producing research outputs using ATP data to showcase the platform’s value in supporting high-quality health research. This role will lead and support research projects, study operations, knowledge translation activities, and evaluation work.

Description

Job responsibilities include: Research Leadership Conduct biostatistical analyses and provide biostatistical support to answer research questions. Support internal and external collaborators on research projects/grants. Identify research knowledge gaps and develop research proposals. Write and publish research papers. Review requests to access ATP data and biosamples. Prepare summaries for internal and external reporting.

Support Research

Assistants and students/trainees.

Research Operations

Support design, testing and validation of data collection tools such as questionnaires. Design research studies, methodology, data collection protocols and standards. Provide guidance for complex data cleaning, data quality, data processing and decision making.

Knowledge

Translation and Communication Support knowledge translation efforts and delivery of research findings to a variety of audiences. Present research results in seminars, scientific conferences or related settings within and outside the organization.



Prepare lay summaries of ATP data and research projects for public dissemination using visual and written formats.

Required Qualifications

PhD in related discipline plus a minimum of three years experience in a research setting OR a Master’s degree in related field discipline plus minimum seven years experience in a research setting. Demonstrated expertise in biostatistical analysis of large research and administrative health datasets. Demonstrated ability to lead research projects and produce research manuscripts and other outputs (including literature reviews and lay summaries).

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with population research cohort study operations, including data collection design and implementation. Expertise in longitudinal data analysis, survey sampling methods and advanced statistical methods. Experience with statistical software packages including SAS, R and Python. Experience in developing and adapting survey tools for use in the Canadian context. Expertise in cancer and chronic disease research, including health-related risk factors such as diet and physical activity.
