Structural Engineer
Grande Prairie / Peace Region
Permanent, Full-Time
The Opportunity
We are working with an established multidisciplinary engineering and professional services firm looking to add an experienced Structural Engineer to its team serving clients throughout Northwestern Alberta and Northeastern British Columbia.
This is an opportunity for an engineer who enjoys being involved beyond just the design desk. The role combines structural design, project coordination, construction support and client interaction, with exposure to a diverse range of commercial, residential, industrial and infrastructure projects.
The successful candidate will work within a team-oriented multidisciplinary environment, developing practical structural solutions and participating in projects from initial assessment and design through construction and completion.
What You'll Be Doing
- Perform structural analysis and design across commercial, residential, industrial and infrastructure projects.
- Develop safe, practical and cost-effective structural solutions that meet applicable codes, standards and client requirements.
- Design and evaluate structural systems utilizing steel, concrete and wood.
- Prepare and review structural calculations, drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
- Assess existing buildings and structures and develop engineering recommendations.
- Participate in field reviews, inspections and construction support.
- Work collaboratively with engineers, technologists, contractors, consultants and other project stakeholders.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary project requirements and technical deliverables.
- Manage project schedules, priorities and engineering deliverables.
- Work directly with clients to understand their requirements and develop practical engineering solutions.
- Support projects throughout the full lifecycle, from initial concept and design through construction and completion.
- Prepare technical reports, condition assessments and other engineering documentation.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members where appropriate.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), with the ability to practice in Alberta and/or British Columbia.
- Professional experience in structural engineering and design.
- Experience across commercial, residential, industrial and/or infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian building codes and applicable structural design standards.
- Experience designing with steel, concrete and/or wood.
- Ability to translate engineering analysis into practical, constructible solutions.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work directly with clients, contractors and other project stakeholders.
- Experience with structural analysis/design software and AutoCAD or similar platforms.
- Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This isn't a role where you'll be limited to one type of structure or one small component of a larger project.
You'll have the opportunity to combine hands-on structural engineering with project ownership, field involvement and direct client interaction.
The firm's multidisciplinary environment provides exposure to a wide variety of projects throughout the Peace Region and Western Canada, while offering the opportunity to work closely with the people actually building and operating the structures you design.
For an engineer who values technical problem-solving, autonomy, collaboration and seeing projects through from design into the field, this offers a broader scope than many traditional structural engineering positions.
