Overview

CoteX Technologies is seeking a technically knowledgeable and commercially minded Plant Nutrition Scientist to support the development and market introduction of our controlled-release plant-nutrition products.

This role combines horticultural science, product development, field trials, technical marketing, and distributor support. The successful candidate will work closely with growers, distributors, research partners, and the company’s marketing and product-development teams.

This is a hands-on position for someone who understands plant nutrition and can confidently translate technical information into practical product recommendations and compelling commercial messages.

Key Responsibilities

- Plan, coordinate, and monitor greenhouse, nursery, field, and consumer product trials.
- Develop trial protocols, collect and analyze performance data, and prepare clear technical reports.
- Evaluate product performance across different crops, growing media, production systems, climates, and application rates.
- Recommend product formulations, application rates, and product customizations based on crop requirements and customer needs.
- Work with the product-development team to develop and improve fertilizers for ornamental plants, vegetables, nursery crops, greenhouse production, and home gardening.
- Provide technical support and product recommendations to distributors, growers, retailers, and other customers.
- Participate in product and marketing meetings with distributors and commercial partners.
- Develop technical presentations, product literature, trial summaries, application guides, and training materials.
- Organize and deliver product seminars, distributor training sessions, grower demonstrations, and webinars.

- Represent the company at horticultural and agricultural trade shows in Canada, the United States, and Europe.
- Support product demonstrations and communicate product perks clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Gather market intelligence, customer feedback, and competitive-product information to guide product and marketing decisions.
- Collaborate with sales and marketing teams on product positioning, launch strategies, and customer-development programs.
- Build relationships with growers, horticultural researchers, universities, distributors, and industry organizations.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in horticulture, plant science, agronomy, soil science, plant nutrition, crop science, or a closely related discipline.
- Strong knowledge of plant nutrition, fertilizers, growing media, and crop-production practices.
- Practical experience with greenhouse, nursery, floriculture, vegetable, or controlled-environment crop production.
- Experience designing and managing product trials is strongly preferred.
- Ability to interpret trial results and convert technical findings into practical product recommendations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Confident public speaker who is comfortable delivering technical seminars, distributor training, and trade-show presentations.
- Strong organizational and project-management skills.

- Commercial mindset with the ability to understand customer requirements and identify product opportunities.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with technical, sales, marketing, and manufacturing teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
- Valid passport and ability to travel regularly to the United States and Europe.
- Valid driver’s licence.

Preferred Experience

- Three or more years of experience in horticulture, plant nutrition, fertilizer development, technical sales, or product management.
- Experience working with controlled-release or water-soluble fertilizers.
- Familiarity with fertilizer formulations, nutrient interactions, application rates, and crop-specific nutrition programs.
- Experience working with distributors, commercial growers, garden retailers, or horticultural-input companies.
- Experience preparing technical marketing materials and supporting new-product launches.
- Knowledge of North American and European horticultural markets would be an asset.
- Additional language skills would be an asset.

Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate combines the scientific understanding of a horticulturist with the communication skills and commercial awareness of a product manager. They enjoy working directly with plants and growers, but are equally comfortable presenting at a trade show, training a distributor’s sales team, participating in a marketing meeting, or helping develop a customized nutrition program for a customer.

This position is based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and requires regular international travel.

Pay: $80,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
