SENIOR ACCOUNTANT WANTED – JOIN THE BLUE COLLAR ACCOUNTANTS

You’ve worked hard to become excellent at what you do. It's time to work somewhere that appreciates it.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our Langley office. We want someone who knows public practice, can take ownership of files, communicate confidently with clients, spot problems, work through them and keep things moving.

You know your stuff. You take pride in your work. You care about the people behind the numbers. And you want to be part of a team that is serious about doing excellent work and building something for the long term.

You will be part of a Team.

You will work directly under our Senior Accountant / Accounting Manager and alongside an established accounting team. You will have review, support, technical backup, people to bounce things off and owners who are actively involved in the firm. This is a senior role.

We need someone who can use good judgment, work independently when needed, communicate clearly and take responsibility for moving their files forward. You are not coming here to have a mountain of files dropped on your desk and be left to figure everything out yourself. Bring your experience.

Bring your ideas. Bring your work ethic. We will put a strong team around you and get after it together.

What you’ll be doing.

- Completing corporate year-end files from start to finish
- Preparing T2 corporate income tax returns
- Preparing T1 personal income tax returns
- Preparing working papers, adjusting entries, reconciliations and supporting schedules
- Working with GST, payroll and other tax matters
- Handling dividends, shareholder accounts and owner-manager issues
- Working with proprietorships and partnerships
- Identifying missing information, unusual transactions, tax risks and planning opportunities
- Communicating directly with clients and getting what you need to move files forward
- Preparing clear file notes and documentation
- Responding to review notes and strengthening the file
- Working with our Accounting Manager on technical issues and more complicated files
- Cleaning up first-year and challenging files when needed
- Supporting and mentoring junior accountants
- Helping improve systems, templates, checklists and workflow
- Managing deadlines and keeping files moving
- And whatever else needs to get done to support the files, clients, team and firm

This is a hands-on Senior Accountant role. You are going to prepare files, solve problems, talk to clients and think. When something does not make sense, we expect you to notice it and dig into it. What we need from you.

You should already be comfortable with public practice accounting, corporate year ends, T1 and T2 tax preparation, Canadian personal and corporate tax,

privately held and owner-managed businesses, shareholder accounts, dividends, GST, payroll, CRA correspondence and working directly with clients.

Experience with construction, trades, farming, development, transportation or other blue-collar businesses is a definite asset. If you understand how these businesses actually operate — not just what the numbers look like at year end — even better.

Experience with QuickBooks Online, CaseWare / Jazzit, Profile and Microsoft Office is strongly preferred.

Experience with T3 trusts and estates is an asset.

Who we are and why LSA.

Leskun & Son Accounting has been serving businesses, families and entrepreneurs for more than 50 years and three generations. We have offices in Langley, Mission and Chilliwack and work with thousands of clients throughout the Fraser Valley and beyond. We call ourselves The Blue Collar Accountants.

That is not just a slogan. It is who we are. A big part of our world is construction, trades, farming, development, transportation, family businesses and entrepreneurs. We understand people who take risks, build companies, create jobs and put everything they have into what they do.

We believe in hard work, straight answers, relationships, accountability, integrity and doing what you say you are going to do. Our core tenets are GROCK — Grace, Resilience, Ownership, Clarity and Kaizen. They shape how we work, how we treat people, how we solve problems and how we keep getting better.

We already have more than 50 years behind us, but our focus is on what comes next. We are improving systems, developing leaders, strengthening our team, growing our offices and expanding what we can do for our clients without losing what got us here in the first place: relationships, trust and taking care of people. You are not going to be just an employee number buried inside a giant firm where nobody knows who you are.

We know our people. We know what they bring to the table. When someone brings skill, effort, integrity and ambition, we want to recognize it, develop it and give them room to grow.

The kind of person we are looking for.

We want someone who takes pride in what they do and cares about doing things properly. If there is an issue, communicate it. If you need help, ask. If you make a mistake, own it, fix it and learn from it.

If you see a better way to do something, speak up. We want someone who treats clients properly,

respects the people around them and understands that being senior comes with responsibility, not status. You also need to be able to take feedback.

We review each other’s work because that is how solid accountants and strong firms keep improving. We work hard, but we are not interested in building some stiff accounting office where everyone keeps their head down and nobody talks to each other. We laugh, we support each other, we tell the truth and we keep moving.

Integrity, effort, accountability, communication and attitude matter here.

Hours, flexibility and hybrid work.

For most of the year, our regular public office hours are 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. You need to be available during those core hours, with flexibility to work additional hours around that schedule. March and April are tax season.

During those two months, our public office hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and the expectation is 40 hours per week. Overtime is often available during tax season and may also be available at other busy times of the year. Overtime is never required but certainly encouraged when it is available.

This role starts in our Langley office. Hybrid work generally becomes a possibility after one year, once we know each other, you understand our clients and systems, and we know the arrangement works for you and the team. We may consider it sooner for the right person or situation, but this is not a remote-first role.

You will also be eligible to participate in our discretionary Company bonus program in accordance with Company Policy.

Want in?

Send us your resume and tell us a little about yourself. We want to know how long you have worked in public practice, what kinds of files and clients you work with now, what software you use, what you are looking for in your next firm and when you could start. If you are an experienced public-practice accountant who takes real pride in your work, understands that there are people and businesses behind the numbers, wants to keep getting better and wants to be part of a team that is building something real, we want to hear from you.
