Job title: Senior Business Systems Analyst - ERP & Business Intelligence
Role status: Current opening
Our client: A Canadian manufacturer in the GTA
Intro paragraph: Reporting to the Director of Technology, this role owns the business systems that the company actually runs on. It is a hands-on mix of three things: keeping the core systems and databases healthy, building the reporting and dashboards the business makes decisions from, and helping deliver an ERP change that is already underway.
It suits someone who is equally comfortable writing a complex query, sitting with a non-technical user to work out what they really need, and presenting a recommendation to senior management.
Principal tasks and responsibilities include:
- Reviewing business processes and recommending where technology would improve productivity, then working with stakeholders to agree the solution
- Analysing data to quantify the benefit and assess the cost of proposed changes, and presenting findings to senior management
- Working with the Director of Technology on application architecture and the services that run the enterprise business systems
- Researching emerging practice and technology, and contributing to long-range planning, including deployment and migration approaches
- Delivering business systems projects end to end, on time and against agreed outcomes
- Maintaining, administering and upgrading the existing database and application systems
- Supporting the ongoing implementation, configuration, testing and rollout of a replacement ERP platform
- Designing, building and maintaining dashboards, ad-hoc reports and data visualisations in Power BI or Crystal Reports, and performing the underlying data analysis
- Supporting the design and delivery of solutions for the production system on the plant floor
- Running in-depth testing of current and modified systems, including end-user review and post-implementation support
- Writing standard operating procedures, onboarding new users and training people on system functionality
- Cleansing, mapping and transforming data to support integration work
- Ensuring data integrity, security, quality and compliance, and supporting data stewardship
- Managing several complex projects at once and communicating plans, direction and progress clearly
- Explaining complex concepts to non-technical audiences and setting clear expectations with stakeholders
Qualifications and pre-requisites:
- Diploma or degree in a technical discipline, computer science, information systems management or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum 5 years in a technical business systems analyst role or similar
- Minimum 5 years in end-user training, data analysis or data management, and process improvement
- Minimum 5 years with the Microsoft Power Platform - Power BI, PowerApps, Power Automate
- Minimum 5 years in database management
- Advanced Power BI, including building and maintaining reports and dashboards and writing DAX queries
- Minimum 3 years supporting,
implementing and configuring Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or a comparable ERP
- Strong hands-on experience writing and editing complex Crystal Reports and SQL queries
- Experience with SQL Server, including SSRS, SSIS and SSAS
- Minimum 5 years of IT experience focused on driving productivity through business systems and information architecture, preferably in a manufacturing environment
- Working knowledge of data modelling and BI or AI visualisation tooling
- Experience with software development methodologies - SDLC, agile, waterfall
- Experience maintaining master data and report management
- Project management training or certification such as Agile or Scrum
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organisational and time-management skills
- Excellent communication, customer service and presentation skills, working well independently and as part of a team
- Sound understanding of IT service management, and of change and release management procedures
- Able to analyse, evaluate and define needs, and to create and execute implementation test plans
