The Senior Buyer is responsible for the day-to-day execution of procurement and sourcing activities to ensure material availability, supplier performance, cost effectiveness and continuity of supply.
This role combines hands-on purchasing with supplier management, sourcing, inventory analysis and material planning support. The Senior Buyer works closely with Supply Chain, Production, Engineering, Quality and Finance to proactively identify material requirements, resolve supply issues and support operational and production objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Purchasing
- Manage day-to-day purchasing activities and ensure material availability in support of production requirements.
- Create, manage and maintain purchase orders within Odoo, including pricing, quantities, delivery dates and supporting documentation.
- Monitor open purchase orders and proactively expedite, reschedule or escalate supply concerns.
- Maintain accurate purchasing and supplier information within the ERP system.
- Ensure purchasing transactions follow established procurement processes, approval requirements and financial controls.
Supplier Management
- Manage day-to-day relationships with assigned suppliers and act as the primary commercial contact for purchasing matters.
- Negotiate pricing, lead times, MOQs, payment terms and other commercial conditions.
- Monitor supplier delivery, quality, cost and responsiveness and address performance concerns.
- Support supplier scorecards, performance reviews and corrective-action follow-up.
- Identify potential supplier risks and escalate material concerns to the Director of Supply Chain.
- Support supplier onboarding, annual supplier reviews and Supplier Accountability Program requirements.
Sourcing & Cost Management
- Conduct RFQs and competitive sourcing activities for new and existing components.
- Identify alternate and secondary sources to reduce cost and supply-continuity risk.
- Work with Engineering and Quality through supplier/component qualification activities.
- Analyze spend, PPV and supplier pricing to identify savings and cost-avoidance opportunities.
- Support negotiations and sourcing initiatives led by the Director of Supply Chain.
Planning & Inventory
- Review MRP requirements and translate material demand into purchasing actions.
- Work with Production and Supply Chain to identify shortages and potential production constraints.
- Monitor inventory levels and recommend purchasing adjustments to balance material availability, inventory investment and working capital.
- Support inventory analysis, cycle-count investigation and inventory accuracy initiatives.
- Identify excess,
obsolete and slow-moving inventory and support disposition strategies.
Reporting & Analysis
- Maintain and improve procurement and supply-chain reporting, including open POs, shortages, supplier performance, inventory and PPV.
- Analyze purchasing, inventory and supplier data to identify trends, risks and opportunities.
- Provide timely visibility of material constraints and supplier issues to the Director of Supply Chain and affected stakeholders.
Process & Systems Improvement
- Support effective use of Odoo across the procure-to-pay process.
- Identify opportunities to automate or simplify purchasing, receiving, invoice-matching and reporting activities.
- Support development and maintenance of procurement procedures and standard work.
- Participate in Lean and continuous-improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations, Finance or a related discipline; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in purchasing, procurement, sourcing or material planning, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing suppliers, purchase orders and material requirements.
- Strong negotiation and commercial skills.
- Experience with MRP/ERP systems; Odoo experience is an asset.
- Strong Excel and data-analysis skills.
- Experience with inventory management and manufacturing supply chains.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve supply, cost and supplier-performance issues.
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities with a high degree of ownership and accountability.
Working Conditions: Hybrid, minimum 3 days/week in Kitchener Head Office We use artificial intelligence tools to support parts of our recruitment process, such as screening or assessing applications. Final hiring decisions are made by our hiring team.
