@Bistro is looking for an experienced and dependable Senior Cook to join our kitchen team.

The Senior Cook will work directly under the Chef and support the day-to-day preparation and operation of the kitchen. This is a hands-on cooking role suited to someone with strong kitchen experience who can work independently, maintain consistent food quality, and help ensure kitchen standards are followed throughout the day.

The ideal candidate is organized, efficient, detail-oriented, and comfortable taking additional responsibility during busy service periods.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare, cook, and plate menu items according to established recipes and presentation standards.
- Work closely with and report directly to the Chef.
- Support daily food preparation and kitchen operations.
- Maintain consistent food quality, portion sizes, and presentation.
- Help coordinate kitchen activities during service when required.
- Support and guide junior kitchen staff and cooks when needed.
- Ensure food preparation areas and workstations remain clean and organized.
- Properly label, date, store, and rotate ingredients using FIFO procedures.
- Regularly check ingredient freshness and expiry dates.
- Communicate low inventory, product shortages, or quality concerns to the Chef.
- Assist with receiving and properly storing food deliveries.
- Minimize food waste and use ingredients efficiently.
- Follow established recipes, preparation procedures, and kitchen standards.
- Complete required daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning responsibilities.
- Ensure refrigerators, freezers, storage areas, cooking equipment, and work surfaces are properly maintained.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Assist with food preparation for meetings, private events, and catering when required.
- Communicate effectively with the Chef and other kitchen and front-of-house team members.




- Notify the Chef promptly of any food safety, equipment, inventory, or operational concerns.

Qualifications
- Minimum 2–3 years of professional kitchen experience preferred.
- Previous experience as a Senior Cook, Line Cook, Lead Cook, or similar position is an asset.
- Strong food preparation and cooking skills.
- Good understanding of food safety, sanitation, and proper food storage.
- Ability to follow recipes and maintain consistent quality.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work efficiently during busy service periods.
- Reliable, punctual, and professional.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while following the Chef’s direction.
- Positive attitude and ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Food Handler Certification is preferred.
- Culinary education is considered an asset.

The successful candidate should be able to maintain high standards without constant supervision, notice when something needs attention, and communicate effectively with the Chef.

This position is ideal for an experienced cook who is ready to take on more responsibility while continuing to work in a hands-on cooking role.
