Senior Drone Application Engineer

Location: Saskatoon, SK, or Calgary, AB

Company: Super GeoAI Technology Inc.

About Super GeoAI Technology

Super GeoAI Technology (SGA) is a rapidly growing Canadian AI company transforming agriculture through artificial intelligence, geospatial intelligence, drones, LiDAR, digital twins, and mobile and cloud technologies.

In 2025, our AI-powered products and services helped customers generate or save tens of millions of dollars. Over the next five years, we aim to unlock billions of dollars in annual value for the agricultural sector while building a globally competitive Canadian technology company.

We are seeking a Senior Drone Application Engineer to lead the development of reliable, AI-powered drone applications for real-world agricultural operations.

The Opportunity

This hands-on engineering role combines DJI SDK development, mobile applications, hardware integration, and AI deployment.

You will develop and customize drone applications, integrate SGA’s proprietary AI algorithms with compatible onboard or connected computing systems, and connect drone operations with our mobile and cloud platforms. Working closely with AI researchers, software engineers, and field teams, you will guide solutions from initial prototypes through testing and deployment.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have personally developed and tested applications using DJI SDKs and can clearly explain their technical contributions, the challenges they resolved, and the results they achieved.

Key Responsibilities

Drone Application Development

- Design, develop, and maintain applications using DJI Mobile SDK, Payload SDK, or Onboard SDK, as appropriate for the drone platform and project requirements.
- Implement mission planning, flight execution, telemetry monitoring, camera and payload control, and automated data collection.
- Build efficient workflows connecting drones, controllers, mobile devices, and cloud services.
- Evaluate hardware and SDK compatibility, identify technical constraints, and recommend implementation approaches.

AI and Hardware Integration

- Collaborate with AI researchers to integrate computer vision and geospatial AI models into drone workflows.
- Deploy and optimize AI inference on compatible onboard, edge, or connected computing devices to support detection, analysis, and automation.
- Integrate cameras, LiDAR, positioning systems, and other supported sensors and payloads.
- Optimize processing latency, resource usage, data synchronization, and communication reliability.

Testing and Field Deployment

- Test, debug,

and validate applications through bench testing, simulation where available, and real-world flight trials.
- Develop resilient applications that handle limited connectivity, interrupted data transfers, and hardware or software failures.
- Implement logging, diagnostics, error handling, and recovery mechanisms.
- Work with field teams to resolve operational issues and improve application reliability and usability.

Engineering Collaboration and Documentation

- Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and product stakeholders to define requirements and deliver integrated solutions.
- Write maintainable code, participate in code reviews, and develop appropriate automated tests.
- Document system architecture, interfaces, deployment procedures, and troubleshooting guidance.
- Evaluate advances in drone platforms, SDKs, edge computing, and AI deployment for practical use in SGA’s products.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, engineering, robotics, or a related field—or equivalent qualified experience.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience developing applications using at least one DJI SDK: Mobile SDK, Payload SDK, or Onboard SDK.
- Strong programming skills in one or more relevant languages, such as C++, Java, Kotlin, or Python, with the ability to work in the languages and frameworks required by the selected SDK.
- Experience integrating AI or computer vision models into operational drone, robotics, or edge-computing applications.
- Solid understanding of drone mission workflows, telemetry, navigation concepts, hardware interfaces, and real-time system constraints.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot software and hardware integration issues and validate solutions through practical testing.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and technical documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently, collaborate across disciplines, and participate in outdoor field testing.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with multiple DJI SDKs or drone platforms.
- Android application development experience, particularly for drone controllers or connected mobile devices.
- Experience with LiDAR, RTK positioning, sensor calibration, or time synchronization.

- Experience optimizing AI models for deployment on devices with limited computing resources.

Why Join Super GeoAI?

- Build AI-powered drone applications that solve practical agricultural challenges.
- Work across AI, robotics, LiDAR, geospatial technology, and cloud computing.
- Contribute to technical decisions and the development of new products.
- Collaborate directly with researchers, engineers, customers, and field teams.
- See your work progress from early prototypes to real-world deployment.

How to Apply Please submit your resume and cover letter through sga.ai/careers. Include links to relevant projects, demonstrations, videos, GitHub repositories, or technical case studies where available.

Please address the following questions in your cover letter, focusing on your personal contributions and specific examples. Concise responses are welcome, and you may reference supporting project materials. If you lack experience in an area, please state this and describe any relevant transferable skills.

- DJI SDK development: Have you personally developed an application using a DJI SDK? Identify the SDK and version, drone model, controller or computing hardware, programming languages, and key features. What did you personally design and implement?
- Testing and deployment: Was your application a prototype, internal tool, pilot, or commercially deployed product? Who used it, what field testing did you complete, and what results did you achieve?
- AI integration: Have you integrated an AI or computer vision model into a drone or robotics application? Describe its purpose, where inference ran—onboard, on a connected device, or in the cloud—and how you addressed performance and reliability.
- Hardware and sensors: Have you integrated cameras, LiDAR, RTK positioning, custom payloads, or onboard computers? Describe one example and the main technical challenges you resolved.
- Troubleshooting: Describe a significant issue you encountered during development or field testing. How did you identify the cause, implement a solution, and verify that it worked?
- Mobile and cloud integration: Describe your experience connecting drone operations with mobile applications or cloud platforms. Examples may include mission management, telemetry, data transfers, offline workflows, or automated processing.
- Interest and availability: Why do you want to join SGA? Please indicate your preferred location—Saskatoon or Calgary—your earliest available start date, and your ability to participate in outdoor field testing.

Pay: $100,000.00-$150,000.00 per year Work Location: Hybrid remote in Calgary, AB
