We are seeking an experienced Senior HSE Advisor to join our team in Western Ontario and provide leadership, guidance, and support across our construction projects and operations. This is a hands-on role for a safety skilled who understands the realities of construction and can build strong relationships with project teams, supervisors, trades, and clients.

Position Overview The Senior HSE Advisor will serve as a trusted safety resource in the field, providing coaching, conducting inspections and audits, supporting incident investigations, and helping project teams continuously improve their safety performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Field Safety Leadership

- Provide daily HSE leadership and support to project teams, supervisors, workers, and clients.
- Promote and reinforce a strong safety culture across construction sites and company operations.
- Act as a visible safety presence in the field and engage directly with workers and site leadership.
- Provide practical guidance to supervisors and project management on health and safety requirements.
- Coach employees and subcontractors on safe work practices and hazard controls.

Site Inspections & Compliance

- Conduct regular site inspections, safety audits, and observations to identify hazards and opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure corrective actions are identified, documented, communicated, and closed in a timely manner.
- Monitor compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, applicable regulations, company policies, and client requirements.
- Review and support the implementation of project-specific Health and Safety Plans.




- Ensure required documentation, permits, inspections, and safety records are maintained.
- Participate in pre-construction and project planning meetings to identify HSE requirements and risks.

Hazard Identification & Risk Management

- Assist project teams with hazard assessments, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), FLHAs, and safe work procedures.
- Identify potential hazards related to construction activities and recommend effective control measures.
- Support supervisors in developing and implementing appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
- Monitor high-risk activities including lifting and rigging, working at heights, hot work, mobile equipment, excavation, confined spaces, and other construction-related hazards.

Incident Investigation & Reporting

- Lead or participate in the investigation of incidents, near misses, injuries, and property damage.
- Identify root causes and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
- Prepare clear and accurate incident reports and ensure follow-up actions are completed.
- Monitor trends and provide recommendations to prevent recurrence.

Training & Safety Communication

- Deliver and coordinate health and safety training, orientations, toolbox talks, and safety meetings.
- Support supervisors in delivering effective daily and weekly safety communications.
- Develop and deliver safety awareness initiatives based on project-specific risks and trends.
- Promote employee participation and engagement in HSE initiatives.

Client Support

- Monitor compliance with Steelcon and client HSE requirements.
- Participate in onboarding, orientations, and safety reviews.
- Work collaboratively with clients, consultants, and other project stakeholders on HSE matters.




- Support the project team in meeting contractual safety requirements and client expectations.

Skills and Qualifications

- Strong understanding of construction health and safety practices and legislation.
- National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation or other related designation (CRST, CRSP, etc.) is required.
- Strong field presence with the ability to confidently engage workers, supervisors, project managers, and subcontractors.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
- Ability to identify hazards and provide practical, construction-focused solutions.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a project team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate HSE documentation.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced construction environment and adapt to changing project requirements.

Education and Experience

- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Safety, Construction Management, or a related discipline is preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive HSE experience, with significant experience in the construction industry.
- Strong construction site experience is required; candidates coming directly from a construction environment are strongly preferred.
- Experience working with construction contractors, subcontractors, trades, and project teams.
- Experience conducting site inspections, audits, hazard assessments, and incident investigations.
- Experience supporting COR programs and audits is preferred.
- Knowledge of Ontario Occupational Health and Safety legislation and construction regulations.
- Experience with construction activities such as structural steel erection, lifting and rigging, working at heights, mobile equipment, hot work, and other high-risk construction operations is considered a strong asset.
