Purpose:

The Senior Inventory Manager provides enterprise-level leadership for inventory strategy, demand planning, inventory control and performance management across multiple distribution centers and lines of business. The role is accountable for balancing product availability, customer service, working capital, regulatory requirements and inventory risk across medical supplies, equipment and pharmaceutical portfolios.

As a senior operational leader, this position translates complex inventory data into clear business decisions, establishes governance and control standards, develops team capability, and influences Purchasing, Operations, Sales, Finance, Customer Service, Quality and Information Technology to deliver sustainable inventory outcomes.

Job Responsibilities:

Inventory Management & Governance

- Develop and execute the multi-year inventory strategy aligned with growth plans, customer commitments, service-level expectations and working-capital objectives.
- Establish enterprise inventory policies, governance routines, decision rights and escalation protocols across all distribution centers and business lines.
- Own inventory segmentation, ABC classification, safety-stock methodology, service-level parameters, replenishment settings and portfolio rationalization standards.
- Identify material inventory risks and opportunities, present options and trade-offs to senior leadership, and drive timely decisions.
- Sponsor initiatives that improve inventory turns, availability, cash utilization, space productivity and end-to-end supply-chain resilience.
- Inventory Control, Accuracy and Risk
- Provide senior-level ownership of inventory accuracy, cycle counting, physical inventory, reconciliation and root-cause corrective action programs.
- Ensure strong controls for lot, serial, expiry, quarantine, recall, cold-chain and regulated product requirements in partnership with Quality and operational stakeholders.
- Lead reduction strategies for excess, obsolete, short-dated, slow-moving and non-performing inventory, including supplier returns, transfers, substitutions and disposition plans.




- Ensure integrity of inventory master data, including costs, units of measure, lead times, order multiples, minimums and maximums, safety stock and stocking status.
- Conduct regular risk reviews for stockouts, backorders, supply disruption, product transitions and high-value or critical products.

Demand Planning and Replenishment Leadership
- Lead the demand planning and inventory review cadence for all product categories, incorporating historical demand, seasonality, contracts, clinical criticality, promotions, new products and customer changes.
- Challenge forecast assumptions and resolve gaps with Sales, Operations, Finance, Purchasing and Customer Service.
- Drive measurable improvement in forecast accuracy and bias through segmentation, exception management and disciplined follow-up.
- Approve or recommend significant changes to stocking strategies, replenishment parameters and inventory investments based on risk, service and financial impact.
- Ensure business continuity plans are maintained for critical items and material supply constraints

Analytics, Performance and Executive Reporting
- Define the inventory KPI framework and ensure consistent measurement across locations and lines of business.
- Provide concise weekly and monthly executive reporting on inventory health, service, forecast performance, working capital, aging, write-offs and major risks.
- Translate large and complex datasets into clear inventory stories, decisions, priorities and accountable action plans.
- Lead development of scalable dashboards and exception-based reporting using ERP, WMS, Excel, Power BI and related analytical tools.
- Model scenarios and quantify financial, operational and customer impacts to support strategic decisions.

Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach and develop inventory managers, analysts and other direct or indirect contributors, establishing transparent accountabilities and performance standards.
- Build succession plans, strengthen technical capability and create a culture of ownership, disciplined analysis, constructive challenge and continuous improvement.
- Set annual objectives and development plans, manage performance, and ensure workload and resources are aligned to business priorities.
- Promote cross-training, standardized work and documentation to reduce key-person dependency and improve organizational resilience.

Cross-Functional and Change Leadership
- Act as the senior inventory partner to Purchasing, Warehousing, Logistics, Sales, Finance, Customer Service, Quality,



IT and business-line leaders.
- Influence decisions where service, cost, cash, capacity and risk priorities conflict, using fact-based recommendations and clear escalation.
- Lead inventory workstreams for ERP/WMS implementations, distribution-center transitions, acquisitions, customer launches and other major business changes.
- Ensure inventory requirements, controls, testing, training and post-implementation stabilization are embedded in project plans.
- Build productive supplier and stakeholder relationships while maintaining clear accountability for performance and corrective action.

Qualifications:

Education

- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Business, or related field (Master’s degree or APICS certification preferred).

Experience

- -10+ years of progressive experience in Inventory Management, Demand Planning, or Supply Chain within distribution, healthcare, or related industries.
- -Strong background managing multi-DC environments with broad SKU portfolios.
- -Proven track record of improving forecast accuracy, reducing inventory risk, and implementing disciplined control processes.
- -Advanced analytical skills; expert in Excel, forecasting tools, and ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, MS Dynamics, or similar).
- -Strong leadership experience with a team-focused, team-oriented mindset.
- -Confidence in making data-driven decisions, even when they’re difficult or unpopular.
- -APICS/ASCM certification (CPIM, CSCP) is an asset.

- -Senior-level communication and the ability to convert data into a clear business narrative.
