PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Senior Nuclear Medicine Technologist’s key responsibilities include performing clinical duties and day-to-day planning, organizing and coordination of the workflow in Nuclear Medicine in conjunction with the Charge Technologist. They will onboard new staff and students with a focus on creating a positive culture of learning and development in Nuclear Medicine.

Technologist will advocate for and support continuous quality improvement in the department, with a strong focus on equipment utilization, efficient workflows, and management of cases.

The Senior

Technologist may act as the Alternate Radiation Safety Officer and ensure compliance of the Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Department with CNSC regulations.

Within this role the employee is accountable for contributing to the delivery of the Kingston Health Sciences Centre mission, vision, and values. PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

- Provides safe, effective, and evidence-informed Nuclear Medicine and PET clinical duties in accordance with established standards, protocols, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinates patient care and departmental operations in collaboration with the Charge Technologist, booking staff, Radiologist(s), and other departments. Ensures a balanced distribution of daily assignments, and resolution of day-to-day operational concerns. Ensures adherence to clinical practices by providing guidance and support to Technologists and other staff working in the area
- Provides the orientation, education, and training of new staff and Nuclear Medicine students. Promotes competency, professional growth, and adherence to departmental standards and practices. Promotes a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Collaborates with Charge Technologist, Radiologist(s) and clinical staff to support protocol development, clinical practice standards, and continuous improvement in patient care and service delivery.
- Develops, implements, and conducts regular review of Nuclear Medicine policies and procedures with the Charge Technologist and Radiologist(s) to ensure current and evidence-informed practice.
- Coordinates equipment maintenance, preventative maintenance schedules, service requirements, and equipment-related issues to minimize operational disruption and maintain safe,



reliable clinical services.
- Provides input into the selection, evaluation, and effective utilization of radiopharmaceutical supply.
- May act as Alternate Radiation Safety Officer (ARSO), providing leadership and input to the Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging radiation safety program. Collaborates with Radiation Safety Officer and Charge Technologist on regulatory reporting, licensing, inspections, staff monitoring and education, incident follow-up, program evaluation, and implementation of corrective actions.
- Perform other related duties consistent with the job classification as required.
- The employee adheres to responsibilities as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act, hospital safety policies, and dept. /unit established procedures at all time. The employee will also adhere to supervisor responsibilities as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act exercising all reasonable precautions for the protection of worker health & safety which includes but is not limited to:
- Being aware of workplace hazards and communicating to staff
- Where appropriate, following up on reported employee workplace injuries/incidents to identify and address immediate hazards.
- Controlling immediate hazards through the implementation of corrective measures/improvements
- Ensuring staff are performing their job duties safely and following up as appropriate to ensure safety of all workers

- Understands and is familiar with all pertinent KHSC policies and procedures including those relating to workplace conduct. Complies with KHSC’s commitment to uphold the Workplace Conduct and Reporting of Inappropriate Conduct policy and behaves in a manner that is consistent with the guiding principles and expectations of the Hospital

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

- Graduate from a recognized accredited school of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Technology
- Radiation Safety Officer certificate or willingness to pursue obtain within one year
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate
- Current registration with the CMRITO
- Minimum of five (5)



years recent experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist or PET technologist within the last ten (10) years
- Experience operating Nuclear Medicine scanning equipment and accessory equipment.
- Competency in evaluating and building Nuclear Medicine protocols and sequences.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and staff development skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with staff, physicians, patients, and other healthcare professionals.
- Strong critical-thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Solid organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and respond effectively to changing clinical and operational demands.
- Demonstrated continuous improvement development.
- Demonstrated computer knowledge.
- Proven ability to attend work regularly.
- Self-reliant, ability to function independently and interact effectively with others.
- Proven ability to attend work on a regular basis.
- Satisfactory criminal reference check and vulnerable sector search required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The applicant must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position.
