Digital Direct Printing

Victoria

Digital Direct Printing Ltd. — Victoria, BC

Full-time, permanent, in office

$50,000–$75,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications

Digital Direct Printing is a local Canadian-owned commercial print company in Victoria with a close-knit team of experienced people who have worked together for many years. We take pride in producing excellent work, solving problems quickly and looking after our customers.

We’re looking for an experienced printing professional who enjoys being involved in the whole process — working with customers, planning jobs, estimating, coordinating production, working with suppliers and helping make sure the finished product is something our team can be proud of.

This isn’t a highly segmented corporate environment. We’re a hands-on print shop where people work together, share knowledge and step in where needed to get the job done right.

The Position

This is a senior production and estimating role for someone who understands commercial printing and can help manage multiple print projects from the time they enter the shop through to completion.

You’ll work directly with customers, suppliers and our production team to make sure jobs are properly planned, estimated, scheduled and produced.

Responsibilities include

- Coordinating multiple print jobs through design/prepress, printing, bindery, finishing and completion
- Preparing estimates and quotations for commercial printing and book-production projects
- Establishing production priorities and realistic completion schedules
- Communicating specifications, priorities and deadlines with designers, press operators and bindery staff
- Monitoring jobs and identifying potential scheduling, material or technical problems

- Working with customers to determine specifications and recommend practical, cost-effective production methods
- Advising customers on paper stocks, printing methods, binding, finishing and file requirements
- Reviewing customer-supplied files for common print-production problems and making straightforward corrections when required
- Purchasing paper, substrates and other production materials
- Working with suppliers on availability, pricing and suitable stock alternatives
- Coordinating outsourced offset printing, specialty binding, mailing and other trade work
- Helping lead production meetings and manage current workloads and deadlines

What We’re Looking For We’re looking for someone with practical experience in the commercial printing industry. Ideally, you have worked in several areas of a print shop and understand what happens to a job after it leaves the estimating desk.

Experience in commercial digital printing, conventional offset printing, bindery and finishing, estimating, production coordination, paper and stock purchasing, prepress, book production and technical customer service would all be valuable.

Hands-on experience in printing, bindery or prepress is a strong asset.

You should have a working understanding of paper stocks and substrates, sheet sizes and yields, grain direction, cutting, folding, scoring, booklet-making, perfect binding, laminating, die cutting and commercial print-file requirements.

Software

You should be comfortable working with Adobe Acrobat and have practical familiarity with InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word is also required.

Experience with DocketManager would be an asset but is not required. Experience with another print MIS/ERP or production-management system would also be valuable.

You do not need to be a graphic designer, but you should be comfortable inspecting customer files and making straightforward production corrections when necessary.

Compensation & Benefits

$50,000–$75,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

Extended medical benefits and on-site parking are provided.

This is a full-time, permanent, Monday-to-Friday position at Digital Direct Printing in Victoria.

Location

This is an on-site position and is not a remote role.

We are primarily looking for someone who already lives within practical daily commuting distance of our Victoria facility.

Applying

Please send us your résumé along with a brief description of your experience in the commercial printing industry.

We’re particularly interested in hearing about your experience with printing, bindery, estimating, production coordination, prepress, paper purchasing and managing customer print projects from start to finish.

If you’ve spent years working in print and enjoy being involved in the entire process rather than just one small part of it, we’d like to hear from you.
