The Slitter Helper plays a key role in supporting safe and efficient slitting operations by assisting the Slitter Operator with machine preparation, material handling, quality monitoring, and packaging activities. This position helps ensure products are processed in accordance with company, customer, and product specifications while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, quality, and productivity.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Slitter Operator in preparing the slitting line for production runs.
- Support safe and efficient operation of the slitting line by following operator instructions and established work procedures.
- Monitor the slitting process for potential defects and report any quality concerns to the Slitter Operator.
- Assist with coil handling activities, including monitoring coil drop into and out of the pit and removing finished coils from the take-up reel.
- Band finished coils according to specifications and operator instructions.
- Operate tables and material handling equipment to safely remove finished coils from the slitter line.
- Assist the Banding Line Operator with moving finished coils to the turnstile table for final packaging and shipment preparation.
- Support the completion of production documentation, setup sheets, and operational logs.
- Maintain awareness of product quality requirements throughout the production process.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Quality, Safety & Environmental Responsibilities
- Proactively identify, document, and report non-conformities related to products, processes, and quality systems.
- Participate in corrective and preventive action processes and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Help ensure non-conforming products are properly identified and prevented from further processing until issues are resolved.
- Comply with all quality, environmental, health and safety, and company policies and procedures.
- Promote a secure work environment by adhering to safety policies and safe work practices.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Maintain work areas in accordance with 5S housekeeping standards.
- Support a culture of teamwork, accountability, and operational excellence.
- Maintain reliable transportation and flexibility to work all shifts as required.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- 1-2 years of manufacturing, production, or related experience preferred.
- Experience in a steel processing or manufacturing environment is considered an asset.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality.
- Ability to perform physical work in a fast-paced industrial environment.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
*This position requires the ability to work rotating shifts, including days, afternoons, and nights. The base pay for this position is $33.88/hour (CAD). This position is eligible to participate in a short-term incentive plan. Incentive awards, if any,
are based on business and individual performance and are not guaranteed.
