Software QA Test Technician

Location: Saint-Laurent, QC

Work Arrangement: 100% Onsite – No Remote

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM

Hours: 7.5 hours/day, 37.5 hours/week

Job Summary

We are looking for a Software QA Test Technician to join the Engineering team supporting a growing Machine Vision and Imaging business.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with PC technology, software testing, troubleshooting, and diagnostics. This role involves testing preliminary and prototype software, using standard lab equipment and processes, documenting test results, troubleshooting defects, and supporting engineering teams with product validation and technical documentation.

Candidates with an AEC or DEC in Computer Science, Computer Systems, or a related field are preferred.

Key Responsibilities

- Follow established processes to create and test products, software, and applications.
- Perform software testing, checkout, troubleshooting, and fault isolation based on written or verbal requirements.
- Run operational tests and diagnostics on software programs.
- Identify, debug, and characterize software defects.
- Determine appropriate methods or actions to troubleshoot and resolve malfunctions.
- Provide detailed configurations and descriptions of passing and failing tests for product evaluation reports.
- Identify actual or potential issues in test plans and products.
- Record test results and maintain accurate laboratory documentation.
- Assist Product Development Engineers with the diagnosis and replication of product failures.
- Analyze test results and provide recommendations.
- Test changes and upgrades to existing designs and validate each revision.
- Review, validate, and update engineering documentation.
- Follow Agile processes and QA best practices to support high-quality software releases.




- Participate in the software release process under manager direction.
- Work with new technologies and testing approaches while following established procedures.
- Perform assigned testing activities with moderate supervision and exercise judgment when troubleshooting issues.

Minimum Requirements

- AEC or DEC in Computer Science, Computer Systems, or a related field.
- Equivalent vocational qualification and/or relevant experience may be considered.
- Hands-on PC technology, testing, troubleshooting, or QA experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English – Required.
- Ability to work 100% onsite in Saint-Laurent, QC.

Required / Preferred Skills

- Good knowledge of Microsoft Windows 10 and Windows 11.
- Good knowledge of Linux distributions, such as Ubuntu, Red Hat, or SUSE.
- Understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile practices.
- Knowledge of PC architecture and hardware/software components.
- Experience with software test management systems, such as Testray.
- Strong communication skills and ability to provide testing progress updates to stakeholders.
- Proficiency with MS Word, MS Excel, and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge of programming languages/tools such as Python and Microsoft Visual Studio is an asset.
- Strong troubleshooting and defect-analysis skills.
- Ability to document test procedures, configurations, results, and defects accurately.

Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a PC-focused QA/Test Technician with hands-on experience testing software and troubleshooting computer systems. Candidates with an AEC/DEC in Computer Science or Computer Systems, along with experience in Windows, Linux, PC architecture, software testing, and defect troubleshooting, are strongly preferred. Important: This is a 100% onsite position. Work from home is not available.
