Position Overview

9 Mile Take Out is looking for a reliable, experienced, and motivated Chef to join our kitchen team.

This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys working as part of a team in a rapid-paced kitchen environment. The Sous Chef will assist with food preparation, cooking, maintaining food quality and consistency, and keeping the kitchen clean and organized.

As this position works primarily during our evening and closing shifts, an important part of the role will also be making sure the kitchen is properly stocked and prepared for the following day's service.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare and cook menu items according to 9 Mile recipes, portions, and quality standards.
- Work alongside other kitchen team members during service.
- Help keep orders moving efficiently during busy periods.
- Maintain consistent food quality, portioning, and presentation.
- Complete food preparation required for both the current shift and the following business day.
- Review food and ingredient levels and identify items that need to be prepared or restocked.
- Ensure meats, sauces, sides, vegetables, and other menu items are properly prepared and stored for the next day's service.
- Communicate low-stock or out-of-stock items to management.
- Assist with receiving, organizing, and rotating food products when required.
- Ensure food is properly labelled, dated, stored, and rotated.
- Follow food safety, sanitation, and proper food-handling procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized cooking and prep area throughout the shift.
- Help minimize food waste through proper preparation, storage, and portion control.




- Work with the kitchen team to complete cleaning and closing duties.
- Ensure the kitchen is left clean, organized, stocked, and prepared for the following day.
- Report equipment, food-quality, inventory, or operational concerns to management.

We especially value someone who is proactive—if something needs to be prepped, restocked, cleaned, or organized, you take the initiative to get it done.

Qualifications

- Previous professional kitchen or cooking experience.
- Strong food preparation and cooking skills.
- Ability to follow recipes and maintain consistent food quality.
- Understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen.
- Strong organization and time-management skills.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Positive attitude and ability to work well as part of a team.
- Comfortable assisting with cleaning and closing responsibilities.
- Must be available Thursday through Sunday, 4:00 PM until close.

About the Role This position is a good fit for someone looking to become an important part of the 9 Mile kitchen team. While this is not primarily a management position, we are looking for someone experienced enough to take ownership of their work, help keep the kitchen running smoothly, and make sure the team coming in the next day is set up for success.

Pay: $23.00-$27.00 per hour

Expected hours: 32.0 – 40.0 per week
