Dr. Vetamin Specialty & Emergency Veterinary Hospital is seeking an experienced and motivated Veterinary Technician to join our growing team.

As a 24/7 veterinary hospital, our technicians are involved in a wide range of cases including emergency and critical care, hospitalization, surgery, anesthesia, diagnostic imaging, laboratory diagnostics, and general patient care.

This position is well suited for someone who enjoys a diverse clinical caseload and wants to develop their technical skills in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Qualifications The successful candidate should:

- Be a graduate of an accredited Veterinary Technician/Animal Health Technician program
- Have previous experience working in a veterinary hospital or clinical veterinary environment
- Experience in emergency medicine, hospitalization, anesthesia, or surgical patient care is considered a strong asset
- Have strong patient-monitoring and nursing skills
- Be comfortable working with dogs and cats with a variety of medical and surgical conditions
- Have good communication, organizational, and teamwork skills
- Be able to recognize changes in a patient's clinical condition and promptly communicate concerns to the attending veterinarian
- Be comfortable working in a fast-paced veterinary hospital environment

Responsibilities Depending on experience, training, and assigned shift, responsibilities may include:

- Providing nursing care for hospitalized and outpatient patients
- Assisting veterinarians with examinations, treatments, and emergency procedures
- Patient restraint and handling
- IV catheter placement and maintenance
- Blood collection and sample preparation




- Administration of medications and treatments as directed by a veterinarian
- Fluid therapy and infusion pump management
- Monitoring temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, SpO₂, ECG, and other patient parameters
- Assisting with emergency and critical care patients
- Oxygen therapy and monitoring
- Assisting with blood and plasma transfusions
- Preparing patients for surgery and other procedures
- Anesthesia induction assistance, monitoring, and recovery
- Providing post-operative nursing care
- Assisting with radiography, ultrasonography, and other diagnostic procedures
- Performing and assisting with in-house laboratory testing
- Maintaining accurate and complete medical records
- Communicating patient information effectively between veterinary team members
- Maintaining appropriate infection-control and hospital cleanliness standards
- Assisting with inventory, equipment preparation, and treatment-area organization
- Providing compassionate care and handling of hospitalized and outpatient animals

About Our Hospital Dr. Vetamin Specialty & Emergency Veterinary Hospital is an independently-owned 24/7 veterinary hospital in Ottawa providing emergency, hospitalization, advanced diagnostic, surgical, and referral services.





Our team works with a broad and varied caseload, providing veterinary technicians with opportunities to participate in emergency medicine, surgery and anesthesia, critical care, advanced diagnostics, and hospitalized patient management.

Our facility includes advanced surgical and anesthesia equipment, digital radiography, ultrasound, in-house laboratory diagnostics, oxygen-supported hospitalization, and on-site blood products.

Schedule

As a 24/7 veterinary hospital, we offer a variety of shifts including daytime, evening, weekend, and overnight shifts.

Applicants should have flexibility to participate in the hospital's rotating schedule. Specific scheduling and availability can be discussed during the interview process.
