About Sports Vision & Vision Training

Vision is about much more than seeing clearly. How quickly we process visual information, track movement, judge distance, coordinate our eyes and body, and respond to what we see can have a significant impact on learning, daily life, recovery, and athletic performance.

Our Sports Vision Training program works with athletes to develop and enhance the visual and cognitive skills that contribute to performance, including:

- Hand-eye coordination
- Reaction time and response speed
- Peripheral awareness
- Depth perception
- Eye tracking
- Dynamic visual acuity
- Visual focus and concentration
- Visual memory and processing
- Eye-body coordination
- Performance under pressure

Training is individualized to the athlete, their sport, position, current abilities, and performance goals. Our goal is to identify opportunities for improvement and provide challenging, engaging training that translates visual skills into real-world athletic performance. Our broader Vision Training program also works with children and adults experiencing:
- Eye turns (strabismus)
- Lazy eye (amblyopia)
- Eye teaming and focusing disorders
- Reading and learning-related visual challenges
- Concussion and acquired brain injury rehabilitation
- Visual processing concerns

Every program is individualized, with our Vision Therapists working one-on-one with patients and athletes to develop visual skills, confidence, and independence while recognizing progress throughout their training.

About the Role

Aurora Eye Care is seeking an energetic, motivated, and relationship-focused Vision Therapist with a strong interest in Sports Vision Training to join our growing Specialty Clinic team.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a background in kinesiology, human movement, athletics, coaching, rehabilitation, or performance training who is interested in applying their knowledge in a specialized and growing area of vision care.

A Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology is highly preferred for this position.

The successful candidate will work directly with athletes, children, and adults to deliver individualized Sports Vision and Vision Training programs. You will learn to understand the connection between the visual system, brain, movement, coordination, and performance and use that knowledge to create engaging and purposeful training sessions.

This is also a community-facing role. We are looking for someone who is excited to help grow awareness of Sports Vision Training throughout Grande Prairie and the Peace Region by developing relationships within our local sporting community.

You won't just be working with athletes inside the clinic—you'll help bring Sports Vision into the community.

What You'll DoSports Vision Training

- Deliver individualized Sports Vision Training programs for recreational, competitive, and high-performance athletes
- Work with athletes to develop visual skills including reaction time, peripheral awareness, tracking, depth perception, visual processing, hand-eye coordination, and eye-body coordination
- Adapt training activities according to the athlete's sport, position,



abilities, and performance goals
- Create challenging, engaging training sessions that encourage athletes to continually develop their visual performance
- Track athlete progress and document training outcomes
- Collaborate with our optometrists and Specialty Clinic team to support individualized athlete development

Vision Training

- Deliver individualized Vision Training programs for children and adults
- Modify activities according to each patient's abilities, progress, and treatment goals
- Work with patients experiencing developmental vision challenges, learning-related visual concerns, concussion, and acquired brain injury
- Encourage, motivate, and celebrate patient progress throughout treatment
- Accurately document patient progress and treatment outcomes
- Collaborate closely with our doctors and Specialty Clinic team

Community Outreach & Program Development An important part of this role will be helping Aurora Eye Care continue to build our Sports Vision presence within the community.

You will

- Build and maintain relationships with local sports teams, coaches, trainers, schools, athletic organizations, and community partners
- Represent Aurora Eye Care and our Sports Vision Training program at community and sporting events
- Participate in local sports camps, athlete development camps, tournaments, showcases, and community events
- Assist with Sports Vision demonstrations, athlete screenings, educational sessions, and interactive training activities
- Help educate athletes, parents, coaches, and community organizations about the role vision plays in athletic performance
- Identify opportunities for new partnerships and community involvement
- Support outreach initiatives that introduce Sports Vision Training to new athletes, teams, and organizations
- Work collaboratively with our leadership and marketing teams to help grow awareness and participation in the Sports Vision program
- Be an enthusiastic and skilled ambassador for Aurora Eye Care within the local sporting community

QualificationsHighly Preferred

- Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology

Candidates with a kinesiology background are particularly well suited to this role because of the strong connection between visual performance, motor control, movement, coordination, reaction time, and overall athletic performance.

Required





- Minimum two years of experience working with children and/or adults in a therapeutic, educational, healthcare, athletic, coaching, or performance environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and documentation abilities
- Confidence working directly with patients, athletes, families, and community partners

Previous Vision Training or Sports Vision Training experience is not required. We provide comprehensive on-the-job training and ongoing mentorship to develop the specialized knowledge and skills required to deliver both Sports Vision and Vision Training programs.

Position Details

- Full-time: 36–40 hours per week
- Part-time: 16–30 hours per week, based on patient caseload and program needs
- Some flexibility may be required to participate in sports camps, community events, team presentations, tournaments, and outreach activities outside regular clinic hours
- Clinic Hours:
- Monday, Thursday & Friday: 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
- Tuesday & Wednesday: 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
- Compensation is competitive and based on education and experience
- This is an in-person position based at Aurora Eye Care
