CGI is seeking an AI Engineer Co-op to join our team and contribute to the design, development, deployment, and operation of AI-enabled solutions for real-world business challenges.

The successful candidate will work alongside experienced technology professionals on initiatives involving Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), AI agents, and cloud-native deployment on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

The role will involve hands-on AI engineering using Python, AI/LLM frameworks, APIs, models, and other modern development technologies to build AI solutions and intelligent agents. Solutions developed by the team will be deployed and hosted on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), providing the candidate with experience taking AI solutions from experimentation and prototyping through to cloud deployment and operation.

We are looking for a student who combines strong software engineering fundamentals with curiosity, experimentation, and an interest in emerging AI technologies. This is an opportunity to work across the full AI solution lifecycle while gaining practical experience building production-oriented AI solutions and deploying them within an enterprise GCP environment.

Your future duties and responsibilities

- Design, develop, and prototype AI and Generative AI solutions addressing business and technology use cases.
- Develop AI agents and agentic workflows using Python, including agents capable of reasoning across multiple steps, invoking tools and APIs, and interacting with enterprise systems.
- Build solutions leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs), including prompt engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), embeddings, tool/function calling, and agentic AI patterns.
- Develop Python-based services, APIs, scripts, automation, and reusable components supporting AI solutions.
- Work with AI/LLM frameworks and SDKs such as Google ADK or similar technologies.
- Integrate AI solutions with APIs,

databases, enterprise applications, data sources, and external services.
- Experiment with different models, prompts, retrieval techniques, tools, and agent architectures and evaluate their effectiveness.
- Develop evaluation approaches to measure AI solution quality, accuracy, reliability, performance, and safety.
- Package AI solutions using technologies such as Docker and deploy and host them on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Work with GCP services such as Cloud Run, GKE, Vertex AI, Gemini, BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Secret Manager, IAM, and other relevant services to host and operate AI solutions.
- Implement appropriate configuration, security, logging, monitoring, and observability for solutions deployed on GCP.
- Participate in building proofs of concept and evolving successful prototypes into production-oriented, cloud-hosted solutions.
- Collaborate with architects, developers, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Document technical designs, architectures, experiments, findings, and implementation approaches.
- Stay current with developments in Generative AI, agentic AI, LLMs, GCP, and emerging AI technologies and contribute ideas to the team's AI initiatives.

Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role

- Currently pursuing a university or college degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related technical discipline.
- Strong programming fundamentals and hands-on development experience with Python.
- Understanding of fundamental machine learning and artificial intelligence concepts.
- Familiarity with Generative AI and Large Language Models, with practical experience building or experimenting with LLM-based solutions.
- Familiarity with AI agents, RAG, prompt engineering, tool/function calling, or related Generative AI patterns.
- Understanding of APIs, REST-based services, and contemporary software development concepts.
- Familiarity with Git and modern software development practices.
- Understanding of cloud computing and application deployment concepts.
- Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or a demonstrated ability to learn and work with cloud technologies.
- Familiarity with data structures, databases, and working with structured and/or unstructured data.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to independently explore new technologies, develop prototypes, and turn ideas into working solutions.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively within a technical team.
- Demonstrated interest in AI through academic projects, personal projects, hackathons, internships, research, or other hands-on experience.

Assets / Nice-to-Haves Experience or familiarity with one or more of the following would be considered an asset:
- Hands-on experience building AI agents or multi-agent solutions using Python.
- RAG architectures, embeddings,

vector databases, semantic search, and document processing.
- AI/LLM frameworks such as Google ADK, LangChain, or similar technologies.
- Working with commercial and/or open-source LLMs and model APIs.
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and deploying applications or services to GCP.
- GCP services such as Cloud Run, GKE, Vertex AI, Gemini, BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Secret Manager, IAM, or related technologies.
- Docker, Git, CI/CD pipelines, and modern DevOps practices.
