About us:

Founded in 1960, the Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa (YSB) is one of the largest and most comprehensive non-profit agencies in Ottawa and a registered charity. It provides mental health services, employment programs, emergency shelter, community, health and housing services, and justice programs to youth in the Ottawa area, serving between 2,500 and 3,000 at‑risk individuals aged 12+ and their families every month. YSB employs 400 caring professionals in a unionized environment in over 21 locations across Ottawa.

Under the general direction of the Director of Mental Health and the immediate supervision of the Coordinator of Mobile Crisis, the Youth Worker provides immediate phone, online chat and mobile response, crisis intervention and short-term follow-up services to children and youth aged 0 to 18, and their families in accordance with the policies and directives established by the Board.

What you will do:

- Intervene on the phone, online chat and by home-based visits to manage crisis situations

- Conduct risk assessments, identify the level of urgency of the crisis, and develop safety plans

- Complete a thorough assessment when required and develop recommendations regarding a plan of care

- Assess client need for and recommend when appropriate additional resources or multi-disciplinary support for client

- Ensure that documentation is maintained according to program policy and procedures including client files and contact activities, plans of care (including goals/action), daily logs and summary reports.

- Provide information and training sessions when required

- Participate in community development efforts





- Participate in staff meetings for the mobile crisis team; participate in appropriate related meetings in the agency and community

- Follows safe work practices as established by the Youth Services Bureau and the Program

This chance may be right for you if you have:

- Diploma or degree in social work or related field.

- Minimum two years related experience in case management, crisis intervention and/ or counseling

- Demonstrated knowledge base in child and adolescent development

- Demonstrated crisis intervention skills with an ability to connect quickly with clients

- Demonstrated counseling skills working with children, adolescents and families

- Demonstrated ability to assess need for multi-disciplinary support or other resources

- Knowledge of community resources and relevant legislation

- Available for shift work

- Valid driver’s license
- Written and verbal fluency in English essential;

- Written and verbal fluency in French is an asset

Additional Qualifications:

- Successful applicants will be required to provide a clear Vulnerable Sector Check obtained within the past six (6) months, as a condition of employment with YSB.

- Overnight premium of $0.50 per hour for eligible staff working between the hours of 11:00pm-7:00am;

Additional compensation: (this should be adjusted to each role):

- This position may qualify for overtime at 1.5 rate after 40 hours worked per week, as determined by YSB polices and the Collective Agreement in place;

- This position may qualify for on call compensation, as determined by YSB polices and the Collective Agreement in place;





- This position may qualify for emergency shift compensation at 1.5 rate, as determined by YSB polices and the Collective Agreement in place.
