Position Summary As a
Sidewalk Snow Removal Machine Operator , you’ll be responsible for operating compact snow-removal equipment to keep our commercial client properties
safe, accessible, and clear throughout winter weather events .
Operators will primarily use
Kubota and Wacker machines equipped with plow/blade attachments
to clear sidewalks, walkways, entrances, ramps, pathways, and other designated areas.
Our sidewalk machines have
enclosed cabs but are not heated , so operators must be prepared to work in cold winter conditions for extended periods.
You’ll generally remain at your
assigned property for the duration of your shift . A Crew Leader will provide direction and priorities, but operators are expected to work
independently and efficiently within the crew
to ensure their assigned areas are completed to Strathmore’s standards.
When a snow event is forecast,
shifts are posted through our mobile app , where employees confirm their availability and receive work information.
This is a
direct-to-site position . Operators are responsible for having reliable transportation to their assigned property in
Ottawa Central, Nepean, or Barrhaven , at any time of the day or night.
This is an important role on the snow team - our crews rely on their machine operators to be
experienced, dependable, safety-conscious,
and ready when the snow starts!
Major Responsibilities Safely operate
Kubota and Wacker sidewalk snow-removal machines
Operate machines equipped with
plow/blade attachments
Clear snow from
sidewalks, walkways, pathways, building entrances, accessibility ramps, emergency exits, high-traffic areas, and other designated areas
Apply
salt and de-icing materials
as directed
Follow instructions and priorities provided by the
Crew Leader
Complete assigned areas efficiently and within required timelines
Perform
occasional hand shovelling and touch-ups
in areas that cannot be properly cleared by the machine
Conduct required
equipment inspections
before and during operation
Follow instructions regarding the proper operation and care of equipment
Operate carefully around
pedestrians, vehicles, curbs, buildings, landscaping, signs, stairs, and other obstacles
Help prevent unnecessary equipment or property damage through safe and responsible operation
Immediately report
equipment damage, mechanical issues, accidents, property damage, hazards, or unsafe conditions
Maintain communication with the Crew Leader throughout the shift
Follow all Strathmore
health, safety, quality, and operating procedures
What You Need to Be Successful Previous equipment operating experience is required
Experience operating
snow-removal, landscaping, agricultural, construction, or similar compact equipment
is strongly preferred
Valid driver’s licence required
Comfortable operating machinery in
snowy, icy, and low-visibility winter conditions
Strong spatial awareness and the ability to safely maneuver equipment in
tight areas and around obstacles
Able to follow assigned routes, instructions, and priorities while working
independently
Comfortable working as part of a snow-removal crew and communicating with a Crew Leader
Reliable and punctual
— once a snow shift is confirmed, operators are expected to report to their assigned site on time
Must have
reliable transportation directly to the assigned work site
Must have
24/7 availability during snow events , including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
Comfortable working outdoors and inside an
enclosed but unheated machine cab
for extended periods
Able to perform physical work, including occasional
shovelling, salting, lifting, bending, and walking
Must be prepared for shifts of
up to 12 hours , depending on snowfall and site requirements
Good-quality winter boots are mandatory
