Description

About the Clients:

We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for an elderly couple in Oakville. The father has Parkinson's disease and colon cancer with minimal mobility, requiring walker or wheelchair assistance. The mother manages multiple autoimmune diseases including severe arthritis and colitis. While she remains mobile and independent, her conditions often confine her to bed during flare-ups. Both are in their mid-70s and value their independence but recognize they need consistent support.

Responsibilities:

- Assist father with bathing, dressing, and personal hygiene
- Support mobility needs including walker/wheelchair transfers
- Prepare full meals and provide feeding assistance as needed
- Manage medication reminders and administration for both clients
- Complete housekeeping tasks including cleaning and laundry
- Provide cognitive supervision for safety
- Transport clients to medical appointments and errands
- Monitor health conditions and communicate changes to family
- Encourage father to get out of bed and maintain daily routines
- Support mother's need to rest while ensuring household tasks are completed

What We're Looking For:

- Experience with Parkinson's disease and cancer care
- Skilled in mobility assistance with walkers and wheelchairs
- Proficient in personal care including bathing support
- Capable of full meal preparation and feeding assistance
- Knowledge of medication management
- Comfortable providing cognitive support and supervision
- Reliable driver with clean record
- Strong communication skills with family members
- Patient, calm demeanor with positive energy
- Takes initiative and works independently
- Respects client independence while providing necessary support

- Experience caring for multiple clients simultaneously

This is the couple's first time receiving qualified care, so a caregiver who can build trust and familiarity is essential. They previously had inconsistent government-provided nursing that they found frustrating due to rotating staff. The family daughter lives out of state and needs assurance her parents are in capable, consistent hands.

Schedule:

Monday and Friday mornings, 2 hours per visit. Flexibility to add Wednesday and increase hours as needs evolve. Morning timing preferred to help father start his day and allow mother time to rest.

Additional Considerations

Father has Parkinson's disease and colon cancer with minimal mobility requiring walker/wheelchair assistance and bathing support. Mother has multiple autoimmune diseases including severe arthritis and colitis, limiting her ability to perform household tasks despite maintaining independence. Both parents are in their mid-70s and prefer consistent familiar caregivers. They are adjusting to accepting help and may initially be resistant but recognize the need for support. Previous experience with rotating government nurses was unsatisfactory due to lack of consistency.
