Conservation Works is seeking an experienced

Grants Management Specialist

to join our team and help lead a growing portfolio of collaborative conservation programs across Northern California.

This position will play a significant role in our

forest health and wildfire resilience programs , including managing more than

$11 million in current state and federal conservation funding . The Grants Management Specialist will work closely with Resource Conservation Districts, public agencies, foresters, landowners, contractors, and other conservation partners to keep complex regional programs moving from funding through implementation.

The primary focus of the position will be grant management and coordination for two major regional initiatives: the

North Bay Forest Improvement Program (NBFIP)

and the

USDA NRCS Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP) . Together, these programs bring funding and technical assistance to private landowners for forest health and wildfire resilience projects across Northern California.

As part of a small, collaborative nonprofit team, the Grants Management Specialist will also contribute to other Conservation Works programs and organizational priorities, including fund development, emerging projects, organizational systems, and strategic planning.

Responsibilities

Manage complex state and federal grants, including budgets, reporting, compliance, contracts, partner agreements, and deliverables

Coordinate work across multiple RCDs, agencies, contractors, and other partner organizations

Manage multi-entity invoicing, financial tracking, forecasting, and grant reporting





Maintain strong working relationships with public agencies, Registered Professional Foresters, archaeologists, landowners, and conservation partners

Facilitate meetings and help keep cooperative projects, priorities, and deadlines moving forward

Support development of new funding opportunities and emerging programs

Contribute to organizational systems, strategic planning, and other Conservation Works priorities

Qualifications

At least

3 years of progressive experience managing state, federal, or foundation grants

and demonstrated high-level project management experience

Experience with

CAL FIRE, USDA NRCS , or highly collaborative grant programs strongly preferred

Experience with complex budget management, invoicing, forecasting, and grant reporting

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Strong relationship building, meeting facilitation, and collaboration skills

Excellent organization, problem solving, and attention to detail

Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Commitment to conservation and community resilience

Willingness to travel regionally and occasionally work evenings or weekends

Compensation & Benefits $38–$48/hour ($79,040–$99,840 annually) , commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Conservation Works contributes toward employee health insurance premiums and offers dental and vision insurance, paid time off, a flexible hybrid work arrangement with a minimum of

one day per week in the Windsor office , and participation in the California CalSavers retirement savings program.
