John’s is growing, and we are seeking a Electrical Specialist to help provide electrical engineering leadership across studies, tenders, and early project phases across new energy projects (Wind, CO2, Hydrogen), Electrical transmission, and traditional oil and gas developments.
This position will drive early technical decision-making by clearly articulating the implications of electrical design choices on cost, schedule, risk, operability, and overall project delivery.
Ensure electrical scope is developed in close alignment with process, mechanical, and layout disciplines, proactively managing interfaces, identifying critical dependencies, and resolving cross-functional challenges to maintain an integrated and cohesive design basis.
Define, document, and continuously challenge key assumptions, design criteria, and system philosophies, ensuring transparency of risks and opportunities and enabling informed client and project decisions throughout the study and FEED lifecycle.
Embed client, regulatory, and safety requirements into all aspects of the electrical design, ensuring compliance while identifying opportunities for optimization, standardization, and value improvement.
Support the maturation of project definition through early vendor engagement, power system studies, and input to cost estimates and execution strategies,
contributing to improved cost confidence and reduced delivery risk.
Maintain clear and proactive communication with project leadership and clients, ensuring engineering developments, key findings, and emerging risks are effectively communicated.
Present technical outcomes and recommendations in a structured manner that supports informed decision-making and alignment across the project team.
Support prospect identification, pursuit, and tender development including estimating workscopes and providing input to project estimates.
Influence stakeholders and project teams without direct authority
Build effective internal networks across engineering, and project delivery functions
Knowledge of power system analysis tools e.g. Strong front end design experience
Experience in design construction and operation of electrical power generation, distribution, and transmission systems, along with power system protection and control schemes.
University Electrical Engineering degree or relevant education with more than 15 years post graduate experience of engineering within front end, FEED and/or EPC projects.
15+ years of electrical engineering experience
Experience in design of concept, project studies,
FEED verification and detail design in renewable energy sector / oil and gas industry
Demonstrated ability to integrate cross-discipline inputs and resolve complex technical challenges
Solid understanding of how engineering decisions impact cost, schedule, operability, and constructability.
Ability to communicate complex issues clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Ability to see customer needs and develop solutions tailored to client requirements
Fluent verbal and written communication in English language
