The Fire Safety

Technician will contribute to the promotion of a safe workplace, living space, educational environment and recreational space for students, staff, faculty, visitors and other guests visiting Western’s campus.

Technician will support the mitigation of fire hazards through the execution of technical testing and inspections, including ensuring accordance with, and application of, the Ontario Fire Code (OFC), the Ontario Building Code (OBC), and applicable standards. 3-year community college diploma in Fire Protection Engineering Technology or a related field 2 years' experience testing, inspecting and repairing fire alarm systems 2 years' experience working with Ontario Fire Code (OFC), Ontario Building Code (OBC), Underwriters Laboratories of Canada (ULC) Standards and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards Proven knowledge of testing, repairing and maintaining per CAN/ULC S524, S536, & S537 standards Proven knowledge of using various electrical meters and test equipment Proven knowledge of fire hazards and related fire prevention and abatement methods, fire prevention inspection methods and techniques,



with an ability to conduct fire safety inspections Demonstrated ability to interpret, apply and explain rules, regulation policies and procedures Ability to provide fire safety education and training to small and large groups Proven customer service orientation with the ability to respond professionally to inquiries, complaints and requests for services in a fair, tactful and firm manner Demonstrated ability to obtain cooperation and compliances to policies, regulations and legislation Ability to convey new ideas, information and communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing Demonstrated ability to read and understand blueprints and building floor plans Ability to establish and maintain effective, courteous and tactful working relationships with department personnel, the public and city officials Demonstrated ability to effectively multi-task and prioritize with an eye to consistently producing high-quality work and meeting deadlines Intermediate proficiency required in Microsoft Office Word and Excel Familiarity with Western policies and guidelines preferred however, it is the university's policy to give first consideration to all qualified UWOSA applicants.
