Logistics Outbound Supervisor Transportation Position Reports to: Director of Transportation The Logistics Outbound Supervisor is responsible for leading the daily outbound routing function across Flanagan Foodservice's transportation network. The role provides leadership to the Routing team while ensuring deliveries are planned safely, efficiently and cost-effectively. The incumbent is accountable for effective planning, performance management and continuous improvement.
A champion of both people and process, you will coach, develop, and empower your team to deliver exceptional results by being responsible for overseeing day ‑ to ‑ day routing operations while also contributing to long ‑ term strategic initiatives that strengthen process efficiency, and organizational agility. With a solid focus on accuracy, proactive risk management, and continuous improvement, you will drive key outcomes including improved fleet utilization, route productivity, equipment capacity and customer service and consistent execution of best ‑ in ‑ class routing practices. Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching and mentorship to the Outbound Routing Coordinators.
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement. Support employee engagement and team performance. Recruit, onboard, train and develop team members by establishing performance expectations and supporting ongoing professional growth.
Conduct regular performance discussions, recognize achievements and address performance concerns through coaching and corrective action when necessary.
KPIs: Coaching documentation completed monthly ≥99.2%. ~ Outbound Routing & Network Planning: ~ Lead the daily route planning process across all Distribution Centers, ensuring routes are optimized for service, productivity and cost efficiency.
KPIs: Reduce routing exceptions and improve planning accuracy. Maintain a 95% higher/exact manual service location, geocode quality. ~ Balance driver hours, equipment availability, cube utilization, customer delivery windows and operational priorities to develop practical and executable route plans.
KPIs: Continuously improve route efficiency, cube utilization and fleet productivity. 650cs/truck avg. ~ Monitor route exceptions, service failures and capacity constraints, implementing timely operational adjustments to minimize customer impact.
KPIs: Achieve high on-time departure and delivery performance. Support route redesign, network modelling and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and support company growth.
KPIs: Support transportation cost control while maintaining customer service.
Leverage
Roadnet or similar routing software to optimize route design and identify opportunities for ongoing operational improvements.
Operational Performance & Continuous Improvement: Monitor KPIs including route efficiency, cube utilization, route hours, on-time departures, on-time deliveries and driver productivity. Develop, maintain and continuously improve routing SOPs and planning standards. Analyze trends and recommend initiatives that improve customer service, increase fleet productivity and reduce transportation costs.
Prepare reports and present recommendations to the Director of Transportation. Act as primary backup to routing team members, covering vacation, Fridays as needed, attrition and absenteeism support. Work collaboratively with Transportation, Fleet, Warehouse Operations, Customer Service, Inventory and Sales to ensure routing decisions align with operational priorities.
Serve as the primary escalation point for routing-related issues and coordinate timely solutions. Ensure full compliance with Food Safety, HACCP, WHMIS, and OHSA standards and training. •Report any concerns related to safety, food safety, or product handling. Post-secondary education in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Administration or a related discipline is preferred. ~3–5 years of progressively responsible transportation, routing or logistics experience. ~ Foodservice distribution and LTL transportation experience considered a strong asset. ~ Experience using Roadnet or similar routing and transportation optimization software considered an asset. ~ Strong analytical, planning and problem-solving abilities. ~ Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills. ~ Working knowledge of transportation regulations, Hours of Service and routing best practices. ~ All employees of our company must demonstrate adherence to all Health & Safety and Food Safety practices as well as all Company’s policies and procedures.
