The Newspaper Distributor is responsible for distributing the weekly editions of the Manitoban newspaper on U of M campus and locations across the city, mostly in the Exchange District and downtown, and reporting the remaining numbers from the previous issue back to the Business Manager and the Editor-in-Chief.
The job takes anywhere from 8 to 12 hours in total, spanning over two days each week (on-campus Wednesday and off-campus Thursday if necessary). The Distribution Assistant only works on the first day, only for on-campus distributions.
The Newspaper Distribution Assistant helps the Newspaper Distributor in distributing the weekly editions of the Manitoban newspaper to the U of M campus, and in the pickups of remaining issues left on newsstands.
Both the Distributor and Distribution Assistant report pickup numbers and stand condition to the Editor-in-Chief on a weekly basis.
This job takes anywhere from 6-8 hours a week, potentially spanning over two days (Tuesday and Wednesday).
Applicants must have availability on these days. The work generally runs from the afternoon to the evening and is mainly on the U of M campus, where the Distribution Assistant will walk through the tunnel system, assisting the Newspaper Distributor by taking remaining papers and disposing of them over the course of the route using a large recycling bin. A route and a list of locations and quantities will be provided each week.
The Ideal Applicant
- Has Tuesday afternoon/evening availability
- Can lift and push at least 50 pounds
- Is able to walk for extended periods of time
- Is comfortable working without supervision
