Title: Math Success Program Facilitator Education Programs Coordinator Employment Type: Part Time, Contract; Since 1986, Neighbour to Neighbour (N2N) Centre has been working to lead the Hamilton community to an improved quality of life. What started as a small food bank has evolved into an indispensable part of Hamilton's social fabric. N2N gets to the very root of its community’s needs, offering access to healthy food, skill building programs, tutoring for children, utility support programs, counselling and a host of other interventions.
N2N works with a small staff team of less than 30 people but is powered by a dedicated team of over 400 community volunteers to mobilize its mission. N2N thrives on a spirit of teamwork, collaboration, and community cohesiveness, tutoring for children, utility support programs, counselling and a host of other interventions.
The Math Success Program
Facilitator is responsible for implementing whole-group activities designed to help participants build numeracy skills. You will lead your assigned math locations and create an setting for learning under the direction of the Education Programs Coordinator. Our programs are offered after school and involve whole group activities and small group homework/curriculum support with the support of volunteer tutors.
You will be responsible for supporting, tracking and mentoring the volunteer tutors at your assigned math locations. Facilitate the math success program! Comfortable enough with elementary level math concepts to deliver engaging educational programming to children in grades 5- 8.
Confident in following a lesson plan to deliver an engaging program to children and youth.
Ability to work independently and demonstrate strong facilitator skills. Demonstrate the ability to understand and use positive behaviour management techniques.
Able to plan and prepare materials that reflect participant needs in collaboration with your co-facilitator and the Education Programs Coordinator. Provide math tutoring and mentoring support to enrolled participants and volunteer tutors as needed; able to mentor youth volunteers. Understand the importance of appropriate and professional relationships in the context of children/youth programing.
Work in tandem with the Education Programs Coordinator to track and record participant data, volunteer hours, and surveys. Participate in the collection of data and information for the end-of-year Impact Report. 2+ years of experience with children/youth program development and facilitation ~ Has a degree/diploma or is enrolled in a post-secondary program studying education, mathematics, child and youth care, recreation or leisure services, social work, psychology, sociology, engineering, or another field related to math focused and/or child and youth programming ~ Comfort and experience working with diverse communities; children and youth ~ Experience in the use of Microsoft Suite programs (office, excel, outlook, etc) ~ Neighbour to Neighbour Centre is an equal-opportunity employer and welcomes applications from all qualified individuals, and strongly encourages applications from women, Indigenous persons, racialized persons, persons with disabilities and persons of all sexual orientations and/or gender identities. com If you require accommodation during the application and recruitment process. #
