Location: Head Office (Burnaby, BC) Job Title: Accounting Assistant Encorp Pacific (Canada), better known as Return-It, is a British Columbia based federally incorporated, not-for-profit, product stewardship corporation with beverage container management as our core business. Our mandate is to develop, manage and improve systems to recover used beverage containers and end-of-life products from consumers and ensure that they are properly recycled and not land-filled or incinerated. Encorp's evolving collection network consists of 180+ Return-It collection locations across BC.
Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Accounting Assistant is responsible for the administration, processing, and reconciliation of transactions and related financial information. This role supports both operational and accounting functions by ensuring the accuracy of posting data, generating reports, processing invoices, maintaining audit records, and responding to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders. Review and cross check data across multiple systems and verify transaction information for completeness and accuracy.
Respond to inquiries from external and internal stakeholders regarding weekly EFT payments, including transactions, audit adjustments, and financial adjustments, where applicable. Generate, review, and analyze weekly payment reports. identify opportunities to improve data accuracy, documentation process, and overall efficiency. Prepare accruals and reversals of payables for the manager’s review, ensuring relevant expenses and liabilities are recorded accurately in proper accounting periods.
Assist the Senior / Intermediate accountants with weekly / monthly / yearly reconciliations of sub ledgers and general ledgers with the aim to identify potential variances, and follow up to ensure discrepancies can be resolved in a timely manner.
Posting of cash transaction entries to sub ledgers, and support monthly bank reconciliation of operating bank accounts. Support year-end audit by providing accurate record, supporting and documentation.
Support other accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as required. Prepare ad hoc reports and data analysis for supervisory team members. Maintain audit documentation and supporting schedules for internal and external audit purposes. *Post-secondary education in Accounting or Business Administration Minimum 2 years of experience in an accounting, accounting support role Experience working with databases, financial systems, or ERP software Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel Experience in analyzing data, with robust logical and analytical skills Data mining abilities is a plus Strong data entry experience with an exceptionally high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
