Description The University of Calgary invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor either in the Faculty of Science or Schulich School of Engineering, in the area of Materials, Interfaces, and Fabrication for Quantum Technologies. The start date for the appointment is on or before July 1, 2027. This position is linked to the University's successful Canada Impact+ Research Chair initiative, particularly the Eddie Goldenberg Research Chair of Canada in Scalable Quantum Network Infrastructure, residing in the Faculty of Science at the University of Calgary.

The successful candidate for the Emerging Leader will conduct innovative, high-impact research, secure external funding, build partnerships, contribute to teaching and curriculum development, and advance knowledge mobilization, innovation, commercialization, policy, and broader societal impact. Candidates should demonstrate research excellence, foster collaborative approaches, and a commitment to fostering inclusive research and learning environments.

Research Area

Building on UCalgary's established strengths across the quantum science and technology spectrum - particularly in quantum interfaces, devices, and sensing - the University is seeking candidates for an IMPACT+ Emerging Leader faculty position in Materials, Interfaces, and Fabrication for Quantum Technologies. This position offers an opportunity to expand UCalgary's research capacity in materials science for quantum technologies.

The University of Calgary requires that candidates have completed a doctoral degree and have expertise in one or more of the following areas:

- Materials science for quantum technologies
- Materials engineering for quantum technologies
- Computational materials research for quantum technologies

The successful candidate will develop an innovative research program focused on advancing the design, development, and fabrication of materials for quantum technologies. Relevant areas of research may include diamond growth and the development or characterization of other quantum materials. The candidate's research is expected to leverage the new capabilities provided by UCalgary's qLab infrastructure, scheduled to open in 2027, and/or the University's growing high-performance computing capacity for quantum-related research. The position may involve experimental, computational, or integrated approaches and will be aligned with one of the Departments of Chemistry, Computer Science, or Electrical and Software Engineering.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

- Contribute to the research and societal impact objectives of the Eddie Goldenberg Research Chair of Canada in Scalable Quantum Network Infrastructure.
- Develop a research program designed on improving and expanding the design and fabrication of quantum materials through research focuses such as diamond or other quantum material growth.
- Develop and sustain an independent, externally funded research programme leading to peer-reviewed publication of national and international standing.
- Teach effectively at both undergraduate and graduate levels, including courses in the candidate's area of specialization, across a variety of formats, settings and modalities.
- Supervise and mentor graduate students at the MSc and PhD levels.

Eligibility In accordance with the Canada Impact+ Emerging Leaders program requirements:

- Candidates must be internationally based at the time of recruitment (both working and residing outside Canada).
- Successful candidates will have up until July 1,



2027 to start in the role.
