Position Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor, Principal Gifts, Donor Relations and Stewardship, the Manager provides exceptional support and coordination of principal gift activities. The Manager manages several business functions including project management, scheduling, travel arrangements, meeting preparation, report preparations, customer service, and general correspondence. In addition to these business functions, the Manager is also responsible for partnering with the Senior Vice Chancellor for Advancement, Associate Vice Chancellor, Development and Assistant Vice Chancellor, Principal Gifts, Donor Relations and Stewardship in efficiently and effectively managing their portfolio of responsibility.
This may include assisting with program development strategies, executing events, data entry, special projects, as well as other activities.
This employee must be able to multi-task and prioritize many competing deadlines and timelines. Attention to detail, commitment to quality, technical savvy, and ability to take initiative are essential to success in this position. The Manager must also be an effective, professional, and diplomatic liaison to a variety of audiences including University leadership including the Board of Trustees, advancement staff, campus colleagues, donors, alumni, parents, and other constituents.
Essential Functions
Project Management
- Manage principal gift strategy sessions and donor stewardship plans which includes scheduling, note taking and dissemination, tracking all follow up items.
- Project management for all strategy session follow up items ensuring timely outreach and completion of items.
- Supports Chancellor and Senior Vice Chancellor engagement with principal gift donors and prospects.
- Supports the principal gift portfolio, including planning and executing next steps as prescribed in their stewardship plans and coordinating appropriate correspondence, travel, follow-up, etc
- Development and tracking of briefings for meetings and events that involve University leadership.
- Provide logistical support for principal gift related meetings and follow up as applicable.
- Manages calendars to schedule meetings with donors, staff, campus colleagues, consultants, vendors and others. Coordinates travel arrangements, as needed.
- Creates and delivers high-quality professional reports, presentations,
and other documents for internal and external audiences (e.g., benchmarking/best-practices at other institutions, donors/alumni, giving histories/constituent information, etc.).
- Provides the highest level of customer service directly to principal gift donors and Trustees through direct interaction.
Event & Meeting Logistics
- Organizes and facilitates trainings, meetings, and small events as needed.
Budget Coordination
- Manages the program operating budget, including pulling budget reports, monitoring transactions, and assisting in budget modeling and forecasting processes.
- Prepares expense reports and reimbursement requests on behalf of their senior-level leader.
- Serves as a knowledgeable resource for applicable purchasing policies and procedures.
Data Maintenance
- Responsible for timely updates of records, data integrity, entering tasks, research requests, activities and the daily maintenance of records.
- Responsible for entering principal gift strategy session details into Piosphere in a timely and accurate manner.
University Citizenship
- Serves as a strong liaison and provides excellent customer service to University leadership, Advancement staff, campus colleagues, alumni, donors, and others.
- Serves as an active and collaborative partner to all central and unit-based advancement functions and campus colleagues to foster strategic, effective, and collaborative advancement practices.
- Model “One DU” leadership.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent project management skills and proficient in handling multiple projects within tight deadlines and delegating as needed.
- Strong content and copy-writing skills and ability to communicate complex information to a variety of audiences.
- Strong critical thinking skills and ability to recognize opportunities for improvement in the completion of tasks and projects.
- Strong organizational skills and strict attention to detail.
- Knowledge of database software platforms; high level of technological proficiency required. Must be able to maintain large quantities of data accurately and efficiently.
- Highly ethical and able to maintain confidential information.
- Ability to manage time well, particularly while managing competing priorities.
- Able to work independently and as a part of a group in a fast-paced team environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience (Veterans with equivalent combination of military certification/education and experience may substitute for this qualification).
- 2 years of experience in development operations, working with the organization’s highest-level donors.
- Project management experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a higher education and/or a similarly complex non-profit environment (e.g. healthcare).
- Experience working directly with Vice President, President, or C-level leadership.
Working Environment
- Standard office environment.
- Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
- Noise level is quiet to moderate.
Physical Activities
- Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
- Occasionally required to move about the office/campus.
Work Schedule Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 12.
Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $85,000.
The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
