Automation Lead

Rate: CAD 60/hr + HST

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Automation Lead to lead the design, implementation, and evolution of scalable test automation solutions across UI, API, and mobile platforms .

The Automation Lead will partner closely with engineering and quality leadership to define automation strategy, embed quality early in the development lifecycle, and drive continuous improvement across Quality Engineering practices.

Key ResponsibilitiesAutomation Architecture & Strategy

- Design and implement scalable automation frameworks and reusable test components across UI, API, and mobile platforms.
- Build, maintain, and optimize CI/CD-integrated automated test pipelines.
- Participate in architecture discussions and code reviews from a testability and quality perspective.
- Lead non-functional testing initiatives, including integration testing, performance, and resiliency testing as required.

Quality Engineering & Planning
- Lead quality planning for complex features and integrations using risk-based test coverage.
- Partner with Lead QE to define test scope, estimates, and risk assessments.
- Promote shift-left testing, TDD, and BDD practices.
- Act as the primary point of contact for defect triage and root cause analysis.
- Develop data-driven quality reporting and escalate quality risks with recommended solutions.

Continuous Improvement & Governance
- Drive improvements in quality engineering practices, automation frameworks, tooling, standards, and documentation.
- Develop and maintain quality metrics covering test coverage, defect trends, and automation effectiveness.
- Support the stability and maintenance of test environments and test data.

Mentorship & Collaboration




- Mentor junior Quality Engineers and review test cases and automation code.
- Support UAT activities, issue reproduction, and end-to-end test traceability.
- Collaborate closely with development, engineering, and QE leadership.

Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in Software Quality Engineering or Test Automation.
- 8+ years of hands-on UI and API automation experience.
- Strong experience with:
- Selenium WebDriver
- Cucumber / BDD
- Postman
- Java and/or JavaScript
- Hands-on experience testing microservices, service contracts, API gateways, and distributed systems .
- Experience with mobile automation using Appium for iOS and Android.
- Strong programming skills with the ability to build and debug automation frameworks from scratch.
- Strong knowledge of Agile, CI/CD, and DevOps practices.
- Experience with Azure DevOps and GitHub .
- Working knowledge of service virtualization tools such as Parasoft, SmartBear, or IBM Rational Tester .
- Experience with log analysis tools such as Kibana or Splunk .
- Robust SQL skills for backend/database validation.
- Experience with JIRA, Confluence, Zephyr, TestRail, and/or Xray .
- Strong understanding of shift-left testing and in-sprint quality practices.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.

Nice-to-Have
- Experience with Temenos, VisionPlus, or other core banking platforms .
- Experience with Delphix or CA TDM for test data management.
- Exposure to cloud-native architectures and Docker .
- Experience with performance, accessibility, or security testing.
