Justice, Legal Services Division has permanent and temporary, full-time opportunities for lawyers to join the Infrastructure and Transportation and Economic Corridors (ITEC) Legal Team as a Barrister & Solicitor. In this position you will work in a collaborative team environment to provide advice on a variety of client projects for delivery by the Province. You will identify and research relevant legal issues; research, review and synthesize relevant case law, legislation and policies; draft thorough and explicit legal advice.

As part of the team, you will provide legal and strategic advice for the life cycle of various capital projects to ensure they are built in a way that maximizes value for Albertans.



Identifying legal risks and providing conclusions or options to mitigate risk throughout the life cycle of significant client projects including legislation, contract management and public procurement. Managing disputes that arise during the contract management process.

Providing legal support to on legislative development. Executing legislative policy, and operational advice under the Traffic Safety Act, the Real Property Governance Act and any other legislation for the client ministries. Providing exceptional legal advice to the client ministries.

Significant commercial or capital project experience in the private or public realm.

Competencies are behaviors that are essential to reach our goals in serving Albertans. Below is the list of critical competencies required for these roles: A Bachelor of Laws (LL.For Law degrees obtained outside Canada, proof of accreditation from the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) is required. You must be an active member or must have immediate eligibility for full membership with the Law Society of Alberta.

Civil Crown

Counsel 1 – Less than 4 years of related experience Civil Crown Counsel 2 – Over 4 years of related experience Civil Crown Counsel 3 – Over 11 years of related experience Legal experience and expertise, Experience providing legal advice in the following areas are the assets for the role: Legislative drafting and interpretation. Litigation experience involving construction related matters including change order disputes. Public sector procurement and tendering.

Experience with P-3 transactions and other capital project transactions involving alternate financing for public procurement. Monday – Friday, 8:15 am - 4:30 pm (36.25 /week) One Permanent and one Temporary position (for 18 months) is available. Final candidates will be required to undergo a criminal records check (CRC).Any costs associated with obtaining the required documents/checks as noted or interview travel expenses, will be the responsibility of the candidate.
