About the role Join the Multi-Unit Insurance Servicing (MUIS) team, in the Specialist, Multi-Unit Servicing and Default Management position. The MUIS team supports Approved Lenders with insured multi-unit mortgages throughout the life of the Certificate of Insurance, including covenant amendments, borrower structure changes, and other mortgage loan insurance needs.
In this role, you will manage complex multi-unit servicing files and evaluate a variety of lender requests to ensure sound risk management practices are maintained. Working closely with lenders, and internal stakeholders, you will analyze risks, develop recommendations,
and contribute to solutions that protect CMHC's interests while supporting a positive client experience and CMHC's mission to contribute to a well-functioning housing system.
What you'll do:
- Manage a portfolio of multi-unit servicing files and coordinate activities related to the ongoing administration of insured mortgage loans.
- Review and assess lender recommendations on existing CMHC-insured loans, including covenant amendments, borrower structure changes, changes to special conditions, security releases, partial sales, and other servicing matters, ensuring CMHC's risk position is maintained.
- Analyze borrower financial information, property performance, market conditions, to ensure CMHC maintains adequate security on insured loans when reviewing lenders requests.
- Communicate decisions, provide guidance on mortgage loan insurance policies and requirements, and respond to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with lenders and cross-functional teams to resolve complex issues and maintain strong client relationships.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance servicing processes, procedures, and client experience.
What you should have:
- An undergraduate degree in commerce, business administration, finance, real estate, property management, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience will also be considered.
- A minimum of five years of experience in multi-unit servicing, underwriting, or administration. An equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience will also be considered.
- Knowledge of risk drivers related to mortgages for multi-unit projects (five or more units).
- Experience reviewing and interpreting financial statements, appraisals, market reports,
and other documentation related to multi-unit housing projects.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, combined with a growth mindset and commitment to continuous learning.
- Robust analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess risk and develop practical recommendations.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both official languages (French and English), both verbally and in writing, and build productive relationships with clients and stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple files and competing deadlines.
It would be great if you also had:
- Knowledge of CMHC mortgage insurance products
- Experience negotiating complex servicing or risk mitigation solutions with lenders, borrowers, or other industry stakeholders.
- A professional designation such as Certified Property Manager (CPM), Certified in Real Estate Finance (CRF), or any other recognized designation from the Real Estate Institute of Canada (REIC).
