Salary or Pay Band: Pay Band 9, $58.11 to $66.5 (5 step range)

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:

Reporting to the Director or Manager of Medical Physics, the Chief Medical Dosimetrist is responsible for daily planning, organizing and supervision of assigned operational aspects of the Dosimetry team within the Medical Physics Department.

Dosimetrist serves as point of contact for interdepartmental and extra-departmental issues pertaining to Dosimetry.

Dosimetrist monitors compliance with radiation therapy practice standards to ensure that high quality, safe treatment plans are accurately produced and administered to cancer patients requiring radiation therapy.

Dosimetrist ensures the work workplace enables and supports excellence in dosimetry and promotes high quality work life and safety for Medical Dosimetrists. This position works directly with the Chief Medical Dosimetrist of the second site to ensure provincial standardization.

Dosimetrist assumes the responsibilities of the Medical Dosimetrist when required.

The Chief Medical

Dosimetrist has knowledge of the overall characteristics and clinical relevance of radiation oncology in the management of cancer or other disease processes, with special expertise in radiation therapy treatment planning.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

- Bachelor degree/Diploma in Radiation Therapy
- Certification for Basic Life Saver (BLS)-C
- Canadian Dosimetry Certificate (CDC) or Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD)
- Graduate Level - Leadership Certificate (or equivalent)†
- Applicants that do not have,



CDC or CMD will be required to obtain Certification within 5 years of the start date. Leadership Certificate will be required to complete a program within 2 years of the start date.

Experience:

- Three (3) years previous experience as a qualified Medical Dosimetrist

Memberships:

- Licensed with College of Medical Radiation Imaging Professionals Society (CMRIPS)
- Membership with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT)

Skills:

- Ability to assume responsibility for work over others on a weekly basis.
- Strong leadership skills to manage medical dosimetry team including coaching, teaching, mentoring, giving effective feedback and supporting the staff through change.
- Expertise in the technical aspects of radiation oncology and medical physics to develop optimal treatment plans.
- Expert working knowledge of radiation therapy and treatment planning software systems.
- Knowledgeable in the areas of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, clinical oncology, radiobiology, radiation physics, and radiation safety.
- Knowledgeable in health care informatics - including the resources, devices, and methods to acquire, store and retrieve data.
- Displays mathematical skills including algebra, trigonometry, and introductory calculus.
- Competence in the use of basic office software such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, WebEx, and Outlook.
- Competence in the development and use of clinical guidelines.
- Possess good communication and interpersonal skills to support the exchange of information with patients, family members, and the radiation oncology treatment team as well as outside entities
- Strong communication skills required to develop and present complex information in written documentation and verbal presentations.



Includes facilitating meetings for multidisciplinary groups.
- Demonstrates high-level critical thinking and problem-solving skills, to include the ability to make quick evaluation and decisions for on-line adaptive responsibilities.
- Works independently, but in collaboration with the radiation oncologist, medical physicist and others.
- Human relations skills required to ensure compliance and promote acceptance through negotiating with staff and/or suppliers where there is a requirement to resolve the conflict or situation.
- Accuracy of fine motor movement is required to perform detailed outlining of anatomical structures using the computer mouse.
- Knowledge of culturally responsive care for First Nations and Métis people.
