Avanti CPA LLP is currently offering eight-month work term opportunities for co-op students that are highly motivated, eager to assume responsibility, and willing to be involved with a variety of clients.

Skills and Qualifications
The successful candidates will support our firm through a co-op position.
- Previous work experience in a CPA firm preferred but not mandatory
- Working knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office, CaseWare, bookkeeping software such as QuickBooks and Sage (Simply), and Tax Software (example: Profile, Taxprep, etc.), experience in these programs are preferred but not mandatory
- Accounting experience is an asset.
- Desired Major(s): Post Baccalaureate Diploma/PB - Accounting, Bachelor of Business Administration/BBA - Accounting

This position requires the candidate to be in our downtown office location in Kamloops, BC.
You will be provided with new, modern work stations and a supportive training environment during the duration of your work term with us.

POSITION DETAILS

Opportunities for Learning
- Prepare financial statements, tax returns and schedules including personal, corporate, trust, charity, and not-for-profit
- Prepare and complete working papers, reconciliations, financial statements, and engagements per regulatory standards
- Prepare adjusting journal entries for client files that are clear and concise
- Utilize the CPA Handbook to understand and apply the applicable standards
- Apply analytical skills including ability to identify unusual transactions or accounts and ask questions to clarify understanding
- Raise identified file issues that need to be addressed with the engagement team
- Draft and proofread financial statements, tax plans and reporting letters
- Provide bookkeeping services and assist with identification of appropriate record keeping methods in various client situations when asked
- Communicate directly with the Canada Revenue Agency on various client matters
- Prepare correspondence and working papers for the Canada Revenue Agency compliance reviews and audits
- Prepare and amend (when required) payroll, GST, T4s, T5s, T5018s, and other government slips, forms, and reports
- Follow-up on Notice of Assessment deadlines
- Meet due dates for the Canada Revenue Agency filings
- Populate data into software, following-up with client for missing information
- Utilize the Income Tax Act and CRA website to understand and apply financial and tax standards and laws
- Complete multiple basic client engagements while building up to moderate complexity engagements, managing multiple files simultaneously
- Develop technical skills in areas such as compilations, bookkeeping and tax (with possibility of building up to reviews and audits)
- Collaborate with client engagement team prior to commencement of client work (book an initial file meeting) to discuss roles and responsibilities, risk areas (reviews and audits), materiality (reviews and audits) and deadlines
- Assist in setting up files for new clients and newly incorporated businesses
- Prepare a list of outstanding issues for each assigned section of the engagement and a plan to resolve them
- Double check work to detect errors or inefficiencies prior to submission for review
- Clear all review notes on a timely basis and ensure they are complete (follow through all related accounts and areas of the engagement the adjustments impact)
- Mindful of deadlines and budgets on engagements by managing schedule and providing timely status updates to Manager and/or Partner
•Leverage and work with various software, programs, and cloud-based software, including CaseWare, CaseView, Jazzit, Microsoft Suite, QuickBooks, Sage, iFirm, and Taxprep
- When requested by management, take an active role in engaging with clients, responding to client needs and contacting the client with questions
- Begin to build rapport, trust, and respect with clients through quality execution and follow-up
- Focus on client service with a dedicated initiative to help each client in a timely and respectful manner
Length of Work Term: 8 months
Location: Kamloops, British Columbia Canada
Salary Range: $50,000-$55,000
